Component Orig. Xbox hookup help.

Post by pepharytheworm »

I finally decided to get a XBOX. I have Gamestop 3 in 1 component cables that I use for my PS2. I hooked them up to my Xbox but can't get them to work for my system. I get a screen similiar to a scrambled movie channel. The Xbox works fine with composite cables. Is there a trick to getting progressive scan mode or do the cables I have not work for xbox? Any help I could get would be appreciated.

Sounds like one of the cords is loose, probably green. I believe it sends the sync signal on that one, but I may be wrong.

Good luck

It's not you it's the cables. Samething happened to me and I found out from another forum it's their brand of cables. No other companent cables from MadCatz will run both on the PS2 and Xbox at the same time.

Pull the plug from the PS2. Don't have both the PS2 and the Xbox connected at the same time. I have the same cables.

They are not hooked up at the same time. I unplugged them from the PS2 to use on the XBOX.

I hate those multiple console octopus cables. The real ridiculous one is the Gamestop octopus cable stating to support Component for XBox, PS2 and Gamecube. The Gamecube connection is simply composite.

I would just get a dedicated XBox Component without all the extra connector plugs. Gamestop does sell a separate XBox used component for 3 bucks. Be careful, sometimes that octopus cable gets stocked as the wrong sku. The worst is the Gamecube Component sku which is usually Wii cable accidently marked as the Gamecube component. Ended up buying that one from E-Bay.

Gamestop used XBox Component Cable $2.99

It's a simple solution turn on your Xbox with no game inside, then go to system settings, video settings, display resolution and switch the output from whatever higher resolution it was on such as 480p, 720p or 1080i to 480i and you'll be able to play Xbox on your SDTV though component without any problems.

Its a HDTV I am playing through.
When I have composite cables hooked up I only see where you can select between widescreen, normal, and 16:9 there is no display resolution I can change.
When I have the component cables hooked up the screen is unreadable to select anything. I tried going by sound and memorization but it doesn't help.

Ah, if I remember correctly isn't there an option to reset all settings?

Of course you'll have to set all of your other audio and video options back to what they were before unfortunately.

As I was continuing to search for answers. I think I might not have the newest Xbox Dashboard. I found two ways to get it.
To obtain the latest version of the Xbox Dashboard
• Connect your Xbox with a broadband connection and the Ethernet connector on the back of the console to the Xbox Live servers. The latest version of the Xbox Dashboard is automatically downloaded to your Xbox when you connect to Xbox Live. You do not need to subscribe to Xbox Live for this download to be automatically sent to your Xbox.
• Purchase an Xbox console that was manufactured after May 17, 2004. These consoles include the latest version of Xbox Dashboard.
• Play any game that automatically updates your Xbox with the latest version of Xbox Live software and the Xbox Dashboard. Beginning in fall 2004, most Xbox Live-enabled games or demo discs that are sold will have the latest version of the Xbox Dashboard.
Would I be even able to connect the system to Xbox live servers anymore to download the latest Dashboard? Does anyone know games that definatly have the newer dashboard?
