Basically like was listed before all you'll need to use a 32X alone with a Model 2 Genesis are:c0r33 wrote:Wow i did not know the 32x took a connector cable a AV cable and the ac adapter thats a lot of cables does anyone know where id be able to get these cables cheap preferably from someone on here ?Hobie-wan wrote:Ok, to clarify, lets assume a Gen model 2 with 32x. You'll need:
2 of the later Gen power bricks with the smaller yellow tip
1 AV cable to go from 32X to TV
1 connector cable to go from the back of the Gen to the 32x
If you're going to have a Gen model 1, you'll also need the adapter for the connector cable that makes it fit the bigger plug on the back of the Genesis would need one of each of the different Gen power bricks.
If you add a Sega CD, it will also need its own early style Gen power brick.
Two Model 2 Genesis AC's - One for the Genesis console and the other for the 32X itself. Model 2 Genesis AC's are also the exact same AC for the Nomad and Game Gear so they are both plentiful, extremely cheap and easy to find at local flea markets.
One 32X connector cable - Basically a small 3 inch cable that goes from the AV Multi-Out on your Model 2 to the AV Multi-In on the back of the 32X. The Model 2 connector cable is a little more common than the Model 1 connector cable, but still expect to pay anywhere from $10-$20 for it depending on where you purchase it online as these can be hard to impossible to find in the wild.
One Model 2 Genesis AV or RF cable to plug into the back of the 32X's AV Multi-Out connector and you're done!
To connect a 32X to a Model 1 Genesis involves two more cables:
AC's will stay the same except of course power your Genesis Model 1 with a Model 1 AC.
Video requires an extra little connector on the end of the existing 32X connector cable which converts your Model 1's older style AV Output into a Model 2 output for the 32X. After that you can simply connect the Model 2 AV or RF cable to your TV just like before. I have never seen one of these in the wild or only in rare circumstances online, and for about $10-$30 at that.
Audio:
When connected to a Model 2 all of the audio will simply come out of the 32X with no need for extra cables. For a Model 1 though you'll need some more hardware. A standard patch cable available just about anywhere which provides a 3.5mm Headphone Jack to stereo RCA (AV Jacks) plugs and simply use that for your audio.
When connected to a Sega CD however you just need to forgo the patch cable for a mixing cable. A mixing cable (Just a regular 3.5mm Headphone Jack to Headphone Jack patch cable) is required to get any audio from the 32X or Genesis thanks to differences in how the Model 1 and Model 2 output audio. Simply plug it into the Model 1's Headphone Jack and the the other end into the Sega CD's mixing jack. From then on out you'll be able to get all of your 32X Genesis and Sega CD audio from the Sega CD's AV Jacks.
Hopefully this helped a bit more!
