Passing up the LTD edition of Castlevania: SOTN (y'know the one with the soundtrack and the artbook) for £15 because "the game looks shit, it's 2D!". This was back in the heyday of the PS1.

Trading my mint copy of Tombi, for Klonoa and then trading that for Gran Turismo. DOH!!!

Selling my mint condition SNES with Zelda, Secret of Mana, Mario Kart, Super Mario World, Super Mario All Stars, Street Fighter II Turbo, Pilotwings, Worms, Donkey Kong Country, Starwing (cart only), Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, Super Metroid (big box version with the official strategy guide) and Super Punch-Out (I'm probably forgetting a few less important games) all mint condition and in box, unless otherwise stated, for £100 towards a launch N64.

... wait it doesn't stop there...

Selling my mint condition N64 in box, with Zelda OOT, F-Zero X, Mario Kart 64, Goldneye 007, Mischief Makers, Blast Corps, Space Station Silicoln Valley, Banjo Kazooie, Pilotwings 64, Lylat Wars 64 (big box with the rumble pack) Mario 64 and some other's that I can't remember right now all complete in box in mint condition. Official strategy guide for Zelda: OOT, 4 Official controllers in gray, black, blue and red, an official memory card + 4 rumble packs. For £150 to put towards a launch Dreamcast. Boy do I regret that decision...

I worked at several game stores to feed my addiction. One day, I was managing my game store when a guy came in with a grocery bag full of games and asked to trade them in. I opened the bag and raised an eyebrow and asked im what he was looking for in trade. He said he wanted them gone (in retrospect he probably stole them or something). I took out a genesis and sega CD and several games including Vay, Lunar, nighttrap and a game I had never heard of (at the time) called "Snatcher" with manual and box. I grabbed them all for what the owner would let me take in trade and put the regular games on the floor. I was researching the game when I found that it was really worth more than the $10 we were charging for it. So I hurriedly grabbed it off of the shelf and opened it up to find someone had stolen the disc.

I was recently informed that Panzer Dragoon Saga is not a crap game and is worth a lot of money.

So your horror story would be passing it up for great prices a ton of times?

What kind of game store doesn't keep the discs behind the counter?

My horror story was when I passed up either X-Wing or Tie Fighter for $2, I forget which one it was. I didn't know if it was a good game, or if it was worth anything, so I passed. Also, I passed up Leisure Sweet Larry 2, complete in box, for $2. I knew it was worth money, but it was too embarrasing for me to face the cashier in order to buy it, even though I was going to sell it without playing it.

I would have to say selling my collections as a kid. I was anal, even as a 10 year old, about stuff. For instance, when I got my very first Gameboy, I kept everything with it. That would mean the plastic, the box, the inserts, etc etc. I sold all of those systems at my mothers Antique Mall (of all places) for good prices, usually using the money to get new systems.

I sold my Atari Jaguar with cd and 25 games on ebay about 8 years ago, a system I had paid a total of $50 for at a local electronics place that was going out of business. I sold it like the aforementioned systems, boxes and all. My price? $100 for all it and I was happy to get that.

What kind of game store doesn't keep the discs behind the counter?

You didnt know the owner. The guy was an absolute Dbag. First they originally kept the discs behind the counter, but ONLY the discs. No protective sleeves. Then He told me to "do what ever I could" to help out the store. Enter music, lighting (it was extremely dungeon like) posters and POP material. Plus I even rigged up a few demo stations and made a "managers special" display. He didnt let me keep a ton of retro games AFTER he hold me to buy them. What had happened was there was simply no space and he refusde to buy anything for the store. We had carts out in a basket on the floor. The place was a disorganized mess that no one wanted to enter. When I was done, the place was jumping and seemed attractive (enough to make a commercial in) and his response was to shut the store down. Without any sort of cabinets, and only two drawers occupied with Dreamcast and Playstation games, we had no choice.

Let's see, dumping all my absolutely minty complete down to the plastic baggie NES games when my original NES got the blinks really bad, but before I knew what to do about it. Selling my complete down to receipt FF 2 for SNES for about $12 about the time the PS1 came out simply because I knew I'd never play it again. Letting my mom convince me to toss all my Transformer boxes at one point when I was a little kid.

I don't know how many of you have no siblings, but I have an older brother and our parents made us take turns choosing which game to buy.

Anyway, he really had poor taste in games. I remember being at EB, lobbying him to buy Tactics Ogre, and then he ends up buying some ridiculous NBA game.

I pre-ordered the Dreamcast at Toys-R-Us. Had it fully paid off.

They lost my pre-order ticket. My mom was there, and she screamed at them until we walked out with the console. Was a pretty hairy ordeal. Needless to say, we never pre-ordered at Toys-R-Us again.

As a kid, I once sold a shoebox full of classic NES games for about $20 at a garage sale.

I know one of the games was Contra, which is currently on my "need to find again" list. But of course, nobody wants to sell it for less than $15. So I'm waiting until I see it for under $10
