hmm...I checked out that link, interesting theory, but it just doesn't seem like something nintendo would do, mean tricks and nintendo just don't fit togther, the Wii name just sounds like a typical 'nintendo' thing to do.
Although I don't have a problem with it, it's undoubtably gonna turn some people off the console, just like the 'look' of the gamecube has, I thought nintendo were going for something a bit more sleek to attract more people with the design and name of their new console...
Revolution Will Officially Be Known as Nintendo Wii
I think the GC is the best looking console of its generation. At least in its black form. The purple idea was dumb.

I totally agree, the Gamecube is a great looking console.
Although what made me think that people are put off by its looks is I noticed a mother and her son in GAME and the mother was saying the console looked like it would suit her little girl, the boy shrigged off the console deeming it as immature, and looked at some inferior PS2 title.
But then again it was the purple gamecube they were looking at...I completly forgot about the black version, I've got a purple one myself. Initally the colour did bother me but it was cheap, £30 with 3 controllers, 2 memory cards and sonic mega collection so I wasn't complaining. The purple has grown on me now though, just makes it look more like a fun toy, rather than a fashion statement or a brick in the case of the PS2 and XBOX, I'm only insulting their design there by the way...errr
GAMECUBE'S BEST!
now that does sound immature^^' but true...

I happen to like Purple.racketboy wrote:I think the GC is the best looking console of its generation. At least in its black form. The purple idea was dumb.
In any case I agree on the form factor: the Cube is the best looking, compared to PS2 and XBox. Actually it might be the best looking console to me. I'm quite partial to the Dreamcast - it is quite nice looking as well.
I'm personally not much into the form factor of the Wii... I never went into iApple craze in terms of aesthetics, and although I admit the advantages of vertical stands for storage purposes (as in the PS2 as well) I think the small Cube and Dreamcast designs were nicer (maybe I'm just too retro with the horizontal mindset).

Not wanting to provoke anyone but...
Aren't you diehard opposers of the Wii getting more used to it by now?
I mean, Racketboy even adopted the clever, Wii-tty and punny "Wii-mote" moniker for the motion sensing, remote like controller.
I have to admit my first gut reaction to "Wii" wasn't good either, but after 5 minutes I wasn't so upset anymore. I guess there's a longer "relaxation" time for most people. By now I think most people have Wii-laxed and have come to accept
And, of course, what really matters is the hardware and the games, not the name. At least for the vast majority of the population. If the games keep shaping up as the way it looks like, I p-Wii-ty the fool that doesn't get a Wii because what they construe is a silly name, and miss out on the exp-Wii-rience of gaming with the Wii-mote.

Wii sounds better when you combine it with other words to create little phrases (which will help the marketing), but when you say "Nintendo Wii" or "my wii", it still sounds dumb
