Your most intense gaming experiences

Post by Gamerforlife »

I'm talking out moments that made your hands sweat and shake. Those moments where you really felt like the game was pushing you. Moments where you forgot this was just a game, and felt like the world was resting on your success or failure. Ok, maybe that sounds a little ridiculous but you get my drift. Here goes:

1)Fighting the last boss in Shinobi(PS2)on the hardest difficulty and going for a tate to S rank the level. I think I almost cried when I pulled this off.
2)Fighting Seven Force in Gunstar Heroes. SEVEN bosses, I hate you Treasure. NOT!
3)The knife fight cutscene in Resident Evil 4. It's not that hard if you have decent reflexes, but the first time it's a nerve racking experience
4)Going for 5 star ranks in Resident Evil 4 Mercenary levels with Leon(the weakest playable character by far), especially when the "super" characters showed up like the eight foot tall dual chainsaw guy
5)Last boss in MDK 2 on the Dreamcast. He's INSANE
6)Waiting for that FINAL button press in Space Channel 5's last stage that you HAVE to time PERFECTLY or it's GAME OVER
7)That @#!$%%!!!!!! speeder level in Battletoads
8)Trying to survive the last level in Metal Slug 3,especially the Xbox version where you'd start the TWENTY MINUTE STAGE over again if you lost all your lives. I never did beat this game.
9)I remember a few stages in Tenchu 2 where you could not get the Grand Master ranking if you got spotted even ONCE.
10)Fighting Alma on Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox on very hard difficulty. I HATED HER!!!

Ahh so many moents like those ,but the first one that springs to my mind ( seeing as I'm a huge MGS nut) is the fight against The BOSS at the end of MGS 3, tense as hell hiding and waiting for that bitch to drop her gaurd. Loved every second of it.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

The most recent example for me would be the final duel against Ganondorf in Twilight Princess, there were no real tricks to beating him but just how skilled you were with your swordplay. There are a few more examples of stuff like this I remember...
Resident Evil 4 - Avoiding Salazar's bodyguard while waiting for the elevator to arrive, he is a total bitch.
Super Mario Bros. Lost Levels - The entire game was like this.
Street Fighter games - Anytime I had to face Akuma, actually 3rd Strike not so much but the Alpha games and Super Turbo this is true.
Megaman 2 - Navigating through that one part of Quickman's stage with all of the forcefield things closing up above you, any one of which means an instant death.

Unfortunately right now I can't remember many of those moments, but here's some:

- Last Gears of War boss, Pale Horse. OMFG, that guy is insanely hard, even on the easiest difficulty setting! On the other hand, it was the first time in a lot of years that I really felt weak in front of a boss, and even afraid of him. In other games I feel safe, I know it's just a matter of patience and repetition of attack patterns, but that guy was different. It took a lot of bullets to die, but he could kill you in a moment, just like that. My hands were actually shaking each time I tried again to kill the bastard, but it paid off in the end, the feeling of accomplishment when you finally see the guy in the ground is awesome.

- Last bosses in Rogue Galaxy. In the final showdown you have to kill not 1, not 2, not even 7, but 10 bosses! TEN BOSSES IN A ROW! And if you die in the 10th battle, which is insanely hard in comparison with the others, you have to start it all over again!

- Last mission in Warcraft III. You have to defend 3 bases for 45 real time minutes! Fortunately you can save your game any time, but its pretty intense, nonetheless.

Just about all of System Shock 2. Also, the last few levels of Bionic Commando on the NES.

Isnt that where the 3 races that you played in all the campaigns come together to battle that shit that fell from the sky? Thats the only RTS I played through to the end. I gave that stage 3 tries and then had to cheat.

I throw a few out

Megaman 2: Where the green dragon chases you while you're hopping from stone to stone above a pit.
Kirby's Adventure: Fighting Meta Knight on hard mode with no saving and half your max HP.
Viewtiful Joe: Fire Leo on 4th (hardest) difficulty. That life bar of his seemed infinite.
Panzer Dragoon 2: The Expected Enemy (last boss). That fight makes you so dizzy.

Yup, that's it, that's why there are 3 bases, each belonging to a different race.

Good to see other Warcraft fans around here, specially ones that already knew and played Warcraft before WoW...

I didn't say I liked it. I hate RTS games. But I did like the lead human character who turned bad, and I liked the hero system. Thats why I actually beat most of the game. I just abused the hero system, and ignored the army building. You can accomplish so much with just your one or two heroes.

No, you didn't, but I assumed it since I don't know many people who beat a game, cheats of no cheats, without liking it.

Anyway, I'm also not a fan of RTS games. In fact so far I only liked Age of Empires II and Warcraft III, and I suck at both, but Warcraft is really a special game.

Kaizo Mario World. An insanely hard level hack of Super Mario World. I actually managed to get through two levels before my brain exploded...

Example video: http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid= ... 8&hl=en-CA (lots of swearing)
