PS1 copied games hipcup
PS1 copied games hipcup
Hi I remeber a few years ago (almost decade ago) I bought few very inexpensive copied ps1 games. Well I was wondering why do some ps1 game hipcup during FMV cutscenes. Could it be that person who had the original ps1 game was scratch up then copied overtime, could that be the problem?

Re: PS1 copied games hipcup
This has been discussed before and you can search the forum for more information. Essentially certain models of the PS1 used a plastic mechanism for the laser assembly, combined with the location of said mechanism (right next to the PSU) causes the assembly to warp and break down over time knocking the laser out of focus. Playing these particularly models of PS1 upside down tends to fix the problem but it will eventually completely break.
Look for models SCPH-7k and upwards which have metal drive assemblies positioned on the opposite side of the console (away from the PSU) work much better.
Of course it could be a simply matter of the person burning the discs at higher than 2x, this is a known factor in the cause of skipping FMVs.
