Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

And you guys listen to game music in your cars? Man I wish I was brave enough for that. Rez was the only thing I listened in my car...with the windows rolled up, Sound low so only I could here it.
Not to imply anything, but once I got out of high school, I found it kind of silly to care what people think of me based on the music I like. People drive by me with the lamest rap blasting on and on, so why can't I take part in the fun and annoy them right back?

Wow, talk about timing... I just launched this same kind of feature yesterday on Press The Buttons. At least, it sounds the same. I take a beloved retro game that didn't get much attention the first time around and highlight my favorite songs from the soundtrack.

Maybe we can cross-promote our articles?

Well, ours will be a bit different. Instead of focusing on one game in particular, Mozgus is essentially picking three random tracks from his "favorites". You'll see in a few hours :)

Yeah I don't think we're doing quite the same thing. A lot of people don't want to bother keeping an entire game album. They might be more comfortable just keeping a few single tracks. I tend to do that myself with any album from any genre. If I don't enjoy more than 2/3rds of it's songs, I delete what I dislike, and salvage what I do. Otherwise I would feel like I'm wasting space. So I'm hoping that with these articles, people will have no problem keeping grabbing and keeping some unique tracks by themselves.

Great idea. FWIW I really like chiptunes. Definitely wouldn't mind seeing (hearing?) a few of those dropped into the mix on occasion. Mozgus.

Will any of this stuff be available for download, or will you get the copyright smackdown on that? At least let us know the best places to get the stuff we like. I've been wanting to dig up some good gaming soundtracks. I really don't own any.

They will be availible for download as long as I don't have to pay out the wazoo for bandwidth and nobody complains.
I'm guessing in most cases they will be too old and/or obscure for anybody to really care -- and we'll just make sure they aren't on an RIAA label :)

I'll get you started

http://www.gamemp3s.net/ One of the oldest IRC release groups out there.
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/view-all Direct single track downloads, they often remove all credits though, including on my rips. Frowned upon.
http://www.gamingforce.org/forums/ Become a member to see the music trading category, this will be your main source for game albums.
http://www.slightlydark.com/ Nothing but full rare albums, but you often find gems on here.

For find more mainstream game albums fast, just search torrent sites.

I have to admit I'm really out of touch with the scene. I used to do rips for #GameAlbums and #GameMusic on the Xelium server, but I dunno if either are still around.
