You know, I find I can go back and play games from every era, until I go back to the 2600. There are tons of NES games I can still sink time into if I feel like it (and it's probably the same for SMS or C64 gamers) but the 2600 just doesn't much hold my interest today with a few exceptions, maybe like Yars Revenge or Combat (with a friend of course).
There's just a huge leap between the woodgrained wonder and all that came after it.
What Games Defined The Atari 2600?
Combat saw a lot of action wherever my my firends and I played.
I picked up a 2600 at a flea market a few years ago, so I could do the A/V mod. Snagged about 50 titles from a local mom-pop rental store that was letting go of carts for a $1 or less. And I'd have to say: Yar's, Keystone and River are all on my fav for single player. And you cannot beat Warlords for some party fun.
Some ones I never really knew of that I liked were:
Secert Quest: It could have been a Zelda contendor.
Tac-Scan: Sega arc port, used a paddle.
River Run 2: impressive gfx.
