Beat it back it the day. At the time I was in between places to live and the only available Playstation was at my mom's, it was under her ownership, but I was the ONLY one who EVER played it, otherwise it just sat there. When I moved into my new digs I packed it up and casually told her I was going to take the PS so I could continue FF7... she refused and tried to pull it away from me, and I actually ripped the console out of her hands.... sorry Mom.

That was a long time ago, and we made up shortly afterwards, I mean, I don't value a game over my Mom, but I was already 25+ hrs in and FF7 had me hooked.

I managed to beat the game, and a few other RPG's, while going thru a few stressful moves, having a full time job, live-in girlfriend, and busy social life. Nowadays i'm marginally employed, single, and don't go out nearly as much, but I chronically leave RPG's uncompleted.

I enjoyed playing thorough Final Fantasy VII, though I didn't play it until FFX was already out.

VII was good though, even if I kept making fun of it for the back of its case touting that it had "amazing graphics" when the in game models were so poor and the inconsistency of its cg cutscenes. The battle system was fun, the story was entertaining, and really it pretty much set the bar for me as to what to expect with the rest of the series. I played IV, VI, X, and IX later, and seemed to pretty much always get what I'd expected thanks to FF7, just an entertaining story and a fun adventure and battle system.

Now if only we could figure out how the 2nd best selling PS1 game is now considered "rare"...

I am currently playing it. I started about 2 weeks ago and am around 14 hours in. This game is not disappointing me in the slightest.

I bought the game in the last few months but I honestly haven't even touched it. I actually had not ever played a Final Fantasy game until about 1 year ago. I consider myself a pretty big gamer and people would always be shocked whenever I told them I'd never played a FF game before. On vacation in the car I played the original Final Fantasy on a laptop with an emulator and USB controller... needless to say I pushed myself through and beat it just so I can say that yes, I have played the series :)

Completed it when it came out. Took me 38 hours I seem to remember and 3 attempts at the end before finally beating it. Then sold it and bought it again a couple of years later before stores stopped selling PS1 games, paid £10 for it brand new. I've since completed it again defeating all the weapons. That run through had about 100 hours play time in it I think.

Also, moved this to the Sony & Microsoft forum since it's a Playstation/PC game.

I beat it back in its PS1 heyday. This is one that I highly doubt has aged well, but at the time it was phenomenal. It looked leaps and bounds better than most other PS1 games of the time. It was the first time there had really been a game with so many cut scenes of such a high calibre. And it was an epically long tale to play through. I thoroughly enjoyed it then. I doubt I would now. So many of the ideas it introduced have been copied and done to death, and are now cause for griping in a videogame. It's funny how much my feelings have changed about cut scenes. I used to love them, now they mostly annoy me because I feel like I'm playing a videogame for 60 minutes, then watching a movie for 10 minutes, and back and forth. I was very impressed with CGI animation back then though. I would rent videos that were nothing but weird little CGI animation clips. I wanted my videogames to look more like that and Final Fantasy VII did in the cut scenes. It felt rewarding to get to see the next little bit of story play out in a more detailed and better animated movie clip. Cut scenes don't work as well today because playing graphics are better. There is some difference in quality between what you play and what you watch, but it's negligable. In FFVII, you had to earn your pretty graphics. Now, you have them while you're playing, so the cut scenes just feel like they punish you by taking away your control and forcing you to watch a story rather than participate in it.

I finished it in like 2003 along with Chrono Cross. At that time, I was pretty certain Chrono Cross> FF7 in almost every way. Of course now, I can't remember a thing about either games' stories or characters' names or anything.

But now, I still listen to Chrono Cross soundtrack sometimes and remember there was a place call Arni Village and that it looked beautiful and colorful.

So Chrono Cross wins for me.

I first bought the game and beat it a few years after its release, but even so it still looked mighty fine and I didn't have much to compare it to then. I absolutely loved it, and it got me thoroughly into JRPGs. I played my original game until the clock stopped. As of now, the only things I never did in the game were a couple of the Fort Condor battles, something like 2 out of the possible amount you could do. Got all the significant items from it though, and can't be bothered doing it again. I think certain things about it haven't aged well, but I still find the pre-rendered backdrops gorgeous. I replay it once every couple of years and as I don't expect it to measure up to everything that's come out in the 12 years since its release, I continue to enjoy it.

Owned it for a while, beat it sometime back around...2001-ish. Didn't think it was terrible, but I never felt it lived up to the hype. Either way, I don't really have any desire to ever go back and play through it again. I managed to beat the weapons the first time, but then again I can get pretty completionist when it comes to RPGs.
