Re: Bid software help
I think they just put in your max bid some number of seconds before the auction close. I believe you can control how many seconds to bid before it ends.pureevil wrote:interesting so how do these work do they do auto bidding for you?

I never saw the point of those. Ebay autobids for you anyhow, just put in the max you're willing to spend (plus an extra random 1.32 or something for good measure).
Doing just that has won me all the things I've needed at least, and if I lost, well it was for an amount I wasn't willing to pay anyhow.

This. Never needed auto snipers. I always do it manually and win for what I want to pay for it anyway.AppleQueso wrote:I never saw the point of those. Ebay autobids for you anyhow, just put in the max you're willing to spend (plus an extra random 1.32 or something for good measure).

Unfortunately, some people aren't rational enough for you to get the same results without sniping. What I mean by this is - if your "opposing" bidders were rational, they would have entered their maximum, you enter your maximum, whoever is higher wins, no fuss.
What actually happens in many cases seems to be:
Opponent: *Puts maximum.*
You: *Puts higher maximum.* Winning bid until...
Opponent: What? I've been outbid? No! My (wo)manliness is at stake! *Puts even higher maximum.*
I.E. a bidding war. As you are rational, you don't counterbid as you had already put the maximum you were willing to pay for the item (right? right).
Bidding wars are good for the seller and all, but sucks for you. Therefore,
You: *Puts higher maximum by sniping without leaving Opponent time to get upset about being outbid*
Sniping can and does lead to getting the item.
In fact sometimes without sniping you win the item anyway as you still have the higher maximum, but you pay more for it. Which is (again) nice for the seller and all, but sucks for you. Sometimes I'm convinced some "opponent" bids in a bit higher just out of spite, but maybe I'm just being paranoid there and they really wanted the item (but then why did they not put the maximum amount from the start).
Ivo.

Re: Bid software help
I never bid until the last 10 seconds anyway. Unless, the item has no bids and only a day to go. Then I'll put my maximum and leave it at that. Half the time I get items like that for next to nothing.

They're good to use if you want to snipe at the last bit of time and don't want to be hanging around the computer.Niode wrote:I never bid until the last 10 seconds anyway.
I haven't looked into pricing. Are some of these free or do you have to pay a charge?
