Thats funny you made this thread today. Just traded my Toyota in today! Picked up a real car, a 09 Dodge Challenger R/T. On my phone at work right now, but I'll post pics later. This car is everything I ever wanted in a automobile. That Hemi puts out the coolest sound ever.

Are you serious or are you just screwing with me cause of my icon? Either way it's weird, since I have heard of Challengers and Chargers having out of control throttles as well. . .

I hope to hell this results in something being done about all the black boxes inside our cars these days. They should be required to publish the source code for all the computers in a car so people can find these bugs and fix them, instead of relying on the manufacturer who will swear up and down that there's no problem until they're hauled in front of Congress. It's getting to the point where you can't even get your car fixed by regular mechanics because it's all controlled by code that no one can see.

At the very, very least, they should require an electromechanical kill switch in every vehicle operated by computer.

In some ways they may help the consumer, but thus far I've seen these "black boxes" being used to punish the consumer more than anything and I sure as hell don't want one in my car. Look at GTR owners getting screwed for transmission problems for just one example.

*edit, I think you were just suggesting that what's recorded onto these black boxes should me made available to the public, as opposed to being kept secret. And if this type of tech is going to be forced into cars I agree with you.

They always give us tons of deals and are always straight forward. It'll be interesting to see what is really wrong with this truck.

Just some shims to open up the pedals from sticking. Though the accusations of sudden acceleration can't just be the floor mats. I suspect the cruise control or the drive by wire sensors and solenoids.

I'm hoping to buy a 2006 Scion Xb (assuming credit gets worked out) in the next few days so hopefully there aren't any issues with that vehicle that just haven't come to light yet.

I know it's uncontrollable but try not to get cancer or some other life-altering illness/disease. 4 years after being diagnosed with Leukemia I'm still trying to recover from that event. Losing my job and being out for a year didn't help followed by a two-year process to become a teacher realizing I'd have to start all over again in Treasury. I finally have a great job but my credit is lousy. It's taking a long time to recover and I won't get back to where I was for at least a few more years. Sorry to vent but the last few weeks of trying to get credit has been a major pain in the butt.

Jrecee, I'm dead serious I just bought one today, I'll post pics later. I've done lots of reading on them before I made the choice of Challenger over Charger. I never read about that issue. Where did you read this? Consumer Reports gave the 09 Challenger very good scores and a great written review. Edmunds did as well. I also read lots of Challenger forums but don't remember reading about out of control pedals. Of course unless you were joking and implying that its hard not to get out of control with the pedal. That I can confirm. Anyways I got rid of the Matrix XRS because it just wasn't fun to drive, and had nothing to do with the recalls.

The new "Retro" cars are nice and a move in the right direction. I don't consider those Factory Hot Rods "Real" cars. Doesn't represent a true hot rod compared to one that you rebuild and customize with your own hands.

How is a Challenger R/T or other "retro"mobile not a real car? Building or customizing your own car is a cool hobby, but I dunno how that makes other cars not "real".

It's not anything super widespread but just something to be aware of. To be fair I have heard of this happening on bmws, mercedes, and most makes of car. With all the electronics and sensors that control our cars these days things are going to go wrong. Unintended acceleration complaints have been around for a long time. The floormat issue was really what brought all this to light. The first car I heard about having a pedal stuck under a floormat was actually the new mustangs, this was a few years before this whole Toyota "scandal". Really it just turns out that Toyota has more complaints than anyone (possibly because they sell a crapload of cars, and a lot of their buyers aren't car savvy people who know how to deal with the problem) and Toyota covered it up. They no doubt deserve to burn for that, but hopefully this ordeal will get all automakers to start looking at their drive by wire systems.

For the record I still plan on getting a Challenger when the 2011 comes out with the new pentastar V6 and revised interior.

A somewhat decent idea, negated by the fact that throttle cables can still go bad, not to mention the huge leaps in car safety made since the rx7 went out of production. What year is yours?

It was a really late 79 model, No airbags.
However, Throttle cables fail, but I think a cable should last longer than a shoddy cheap computer or Drive by wire system, there is too much to go wrong, at least with a cable it is, well, a cable rather than a system of elaborate Potentiometers and feedback resistance stuff.

Yeah, cables do fail, but the difference is that you can actually inspect a throttle cable for wear/damage.
