Re: Team Ico
Yeah the box art is terrible. I think the SotC box art really captures the mood, though.
Re: Team Ico
The difference you have to know is that for the PAL and NTSC/J versions, it's superior in every way to the United States version, just like the cover.
It's like they know the US version is the chopped down version so they did a cover art so terrible it drove people away so to make them import the much superior-looking cover art that is the European/Japan/Asian versions.
For the superior version, you get a special weapon when you do certain things in game. I think there's still a couple more differences but I've forgotten them despite my username.

Re: Team Ico
The PAL version's cover art is based ona painting by Salvador Dali right? Or is it some other modern art painter.
Re: Team Ico
Okay I now have the Pal version of ICO. Confirmed it does have 50hz and 60hz modes and works beautiful on my NTSC setup. I know its nuts but now replaying the game all over again. Hey, its a great game and how else am I gonna do this review?
So far I have progressed up to getting the left exit gate lit up. The main improvement I have seen is Yorda's A.I. which is more active. More vocal and if you can't figure out what to do after a while she will actually point to a location and call out to help you. Rooms seem brighter more rich depth. Looking forward to beating the game to open up the Pal two player option and Light Saber. No hurry though, too many huge locations to revisit and marvel at.

Here's a great Team Ico site:

A very good in deph ICO read, ICO ANNOTATION ARTICLE
This is a Great HTML Page to permanently save on Hard Drive:

I included a Penny Arcade Comic that pokes fun of Yorda's A.I., I think the U.S. release.
This is so freekin funny! Is it true? Read that link right above and see why Yorda acts this way.

According to Wiki Pal cover inspired by surrealist artist Giorgio de Chirico and his work, The Nostalgia of the infinite.

Re: Team Ico
Oh haha. I was close enough. It's surrealist and if you replace that lighthouse with a clocktower, it would be dali all the way.
Both paintings are pretty ballin though. Wish i was artistic.

You may also be right about Dali. Click that second Wiki link above, it gave a hint that Salvador was maybe inspired by Giorgio de Chirico. Dali works are truly bizarre and mesmerizing.
Any thoughts about ICO Annotation article link above the Penny Arcade comic?

Yeah that article is pretty cool. It's nice to look at video games in depth. Personally, I always try to find ways connect ico with shadow of the colossus.
Re: Team Ico
Looks like ICO is also on Little Big Planet somewhere in the "Open World".

Re: Team Ico
Okay I am now certified insane. I played thru both NTSC and PAL ICO. Back to back. On top of that I have continued the PAL version for a second go around to see all the unlocks.
On comparing the two versions the PAL version has a better AI of Yorda. Better graphics in backgrounds with more details and less fogging. The final water sequence still heavily fogged until you get to the pipes.
Once PAL is completed some extra unlocks are available for that second go. Yorda can now be controlled team play with a second player. She is limited to walking, running and short jumps. No weapon capability as far as I can tell, only Ico can use sticks and sword. No fighting back shadow monsters, moving objects or lighting up torches. I don't believe she can climb chains either so no short cuts thru the game. Even in two player Ico can still lead Yorda around by the hand.
There is also a video unlock that sets the game to 4 different movie modes. Aging of the game play screen like watching a scratched up Sepia Tone film movie similar to Resident Evil.

Besides the Mace there is also the Lightsaber. But both these secret weapons are late in the game.
"Okay am I finally done exploring this game?"
