man- we are both posting at the same time. Over and over.

Which is also pretty well done because it's smooth and fun to pull off. And there is no severe punishment to failing like in a lot of other games. It makes things a little tougher, and turns fights into more of the hiding behind walls, but that's what made the stealth aspect more fun to pull off.
nope- you can punch out a guy from behind without him knowing and take him down, but as soon as you do everyone on the board knows where you are and starts shooting. It almost makes it not even worth it because you need to find cover quickly after the first punch. A stealth aspect would MUCH improve this game.

The only times I died in Tomb Raider was from failing to grab a ledge due to shitty jumping, and trying to "explore" by leaping to what I thought were alternate paths. Everything ultimately goes along the same straight line though.
Ah- that is where we will agree to disagree i guess. I found not knowing your way in tomb raider to be the best part of it. To look at a room and plan out where i want to be and figure out exactly how to get through was what the game hinged on. True- it is linear, but it pulls off this weird problem solving thing where you have to try to find the linear route. You need to think 5 or 7 jumps ahead. Uncharted kind of suffers in a weird way of being uber planned. Because everything in the game is so playtested and well designed, i never have to think about the second jump, i just jump. And like i was saying in my original post- this doesn't make for a good puzzle, which means that the game has to make up for it with having the other half of the equation- good combat. It performs the same in the combat. Not bad. Not great. Just kind of serviceable.
