True, when my PS3 turned into a brick during a sytem update, after paying for repair all downloads were available through my history. I would have really liked to throw that brick by somebody with the initials S. O. N. Y.
BUT. the situation about Williams leaving probably means you can't retrieve your RODD'ed paid games that got yanked from XBox..
I would never buy a PSP GO. Game machine breaks, all games invested are gone too.

That's not really the same thing. The game downloads are still going to be there as long as there is still a PSN since Sony are the distributor. This is more akin to buying a car with a 3 year warranty and the company goes bust within a year. The people who bought these games were under the impression that they would last until at least the death of the console/xbox live. Now the safety of their purchases is hazy at best. Microsoft could simply pull support for the games and the files themselves from Live at their discretion. There's nothing you can do about it.
True, there is reason for concern, as we are still in the infancy of digital distribution. These companies are still in the process of deciding what to do about these issues. All we can do is stay vigilant and bitch a fit if they go down a path we as gamers don't like. As always, they WILL listen to our dollars(or pounds - if you prefer, Niode!).
Reading some of the replies to the various blogposts on this topic, one person brought a valid point up. We as a generation of gamers who have been brought up having a physical item when we buy games. This generation of young folk are going to be the first ones who have grown up with digital distribution. They may not see the same value in a physical game on disc/cartridge. We as gamers may get left behind because we refuse to support digital distribution. Just because we don't support it doesn't mean the masses won't as well. They probably won't care as much as we will. I think we are too much of a minority to hold enough sway if we decide to 'vote with our wallets'.
How many of you buy music from iTunes rather than CD's?

I think you pretty much summarized it. Very well done!! I will always prefer physical over digital distribution no matter how popular it gets!!

Buy... music?
I was mainly looking at the people who actually buy music in physical form. I know that I would NEVER buy an album on iTunes. It just isn't worth anything in that form, therefore it's not worth paying money for. I will however buy the CD (second hand, FUCK YOU RIAA!!).
The difference here regarding digital distribution is that with XBLA games this is the only distribution method. Given the alternative (a physical game with a case, manual and box) I will always go for the alternative. I think the same principle applies though. There's just something different and more precious about having the physical item in your hands.
I would rather have the physical game than have a download any day, that is the reason I don't download. I download music due to the fact of having no space to have a lot of CDs plus I have a cheap mp3 that can hold thousands of songs is amazing, but I do own about 30 music CDs so I do know the feeling of taking the plastic off the CD
