as for getting back on topic here i would like to say again that the ps3 is in sony's electronic division where that whole division shows a profit therefore technically it doesnt lose money. also i know at times things are sold at cost or below sometimes there is overstock of items or you have other products that carry another line of products which is what we are seeing here but what is sold at a loss in our eyes is actually carried by something else that is over priced. i would like to see anyone of us sell items for 10% less of what we paid for them and after selling them count your money and tell me how much you made in profit?? you cant because there would be no profit we are talking big business here and they can do alot of things which 99% of small business' can not if you think i am not grasping what is being said here sorry you guys are wrong. like i already stated there are hidden profits they are in every place goods are sold and traded.

however you can not sell a "single item" meaning one product for a $18.00 loss you wouldnt last. now if you sold multiple items which all made $18.00 profit per item yes you could sell another line that takes a loss. if you guys want to believe a companythat does "guesstimations" that is fine. but they are not facts.

You just made our point for us. All we've said is that the PS3 SKU is being sold at a price that costs Sony $18 per unit. Sony makes up that money on licensing costs and the rest of its consumer electronics division.

As I said above, the PS3 SKU itself loses $18 per unit. They used to lose several hundred dollars per unit. Sony has enough operating capital from other products that they can absorb the loss in order to get into people's homes.

Depending on your browser you can extend the text input box by clicking the lower right corner of it. I know that Chrome and Safari can do it (these are the browsers I use the most)

Thread derailments are commonplace here, that's just how things fly. When a thread starts to go nowhere somebody will push it somewhere else and we'll have fun with it. That's fine and part of the great dynamic of this forum. Another dynamic that goes around here is we have very smart people who know how to make good points and they do it well. While not always being as concise as necessary the point isn't lost because the post is well constructed with proper English. This is a courteous act we use to show respect to other users. The way you construct your posts makes it look like you don't care if people read it. Therefore we can't take you seriously, you don't extend the same courtesy that most other users extend when they write understandable, clear and concise posts.

This is how the industry works. It has been well documented as the 'nature of the business'. Nintendo is the only company that deviates from this and always has done because they specifically don't aim to have the 'biggest and the baddest' console. You are wrong. Cut your losses and move on.

I remember one little fact that if Microsoft ceased having all income from all their divisions, they could operate as normal for several years. Can anybody else verify that fact? I can't remember where I saw it but I know it's true.

It should be fairly easy to calculate that from Microsoft's quarterly reports. Take a few years of those and you can see their operating expenses as well as their profits that aren't reinvested in to the company. You can use that to figure out how much it costs to run Microsoft vs. how much capital they have lying around. I've heard a similar fact, and it wouldn't shock me if it was true.

It's not hard to use proper grammar when making posts on a forum. Especially not if your first language is English. This is something you should have been dealing with for at least 10 years now (the T&Cs for this forum requires you to be over 13).

I wouldn't feel too sorry for Sony. They still have the only non-piratable console so they're still getting all that lovely money from software sales which is what console manufacturers make the most money from.

They hacked the original using the "other OS" feature a few weeks back. But in all honesty, who will download a 25GB game? Thats the real way of making your console unpirateable

But $18 isn't that much... I would pay $318 for a PS3 if I would pay $300 for a PS3.
