Kingdom of Paradise/Key of Heaven

I like a good action RPG, but this one just isn't doing it for me. I'm about 5 hours in, I've seen 3 of 5 of the chi monuments, and heading towards the 4th at the moment. Gameplay seems to consist of mashing the 'o' button repeatedly. If there's a point to all this 'bugei' and 'kenpu' stuff, I haven't figured out what it is yet.

In favor of the game, it does have beautiful graphics. There's also some amusing dialog with sexual overtones. Voice acting is pretty good.

But I'm not feeling it. Has anyone else played the game? Is it worth sticking with? I'm thinking maybe if I can figure out what to do with these scrolls it might get interesting but I dunno. This is the studio that did Shining Force and Landstalkers, so I was expecting to be impressed. Oh well.
