This may be my biggest gaming disappointment in a long time, or possibly ever. Let me start by saying I was very much hyped up for this game, love Level 5 and I had been wanting this game since like 2007. I ran out and picked it up right away when it came out, ignoring all reviews..big mistake. I will say it has some good things going for it, but little mistakes just ruin the experience.
Firstly, everyone complained about the difficulty, it's for good reason. The enemies do little damage to you, and even if they did more a simple heal gives you all your health back. Yet it's still annoying because all the enemies have way too much HP, so you just sit there hitting X until there dead.
The story is not very good at all, it seems very unthoughtful. There's no real depth to any of the characters, the main plot is actually kind of boring, and emotional parts are dulled because of the awful Voice Acting.
The online aspects were what I was really looking forward to, and even with all those good ideas execution is an Epic Fail. Georama(the making of your own hometown) was very cool, until I saw that you use real-life money to buy the best items, now I don't know it those become available in game later, but either way Micro-transactions are unfair to gamers. I found the online interface to be a little to confusing aswell, i spent an hour trying to figure out how to quest with someone before I just quit. However, the Avatar creation is surprisingly deep, and I really enjoyed making a character.
If the combat wasn't so dull, the actual system would be amazing, you can make your own combo's, learn cool skills, cue your teammates, and transform into the White Knight! Only problem is your just as well off using the standard slash, anything else is just overkill.
So basically, the game had enormous potential, the graphics are absolutely beautiful, your character changes clothes as you equip them, the White Knight is AWESOME, and the overall ambiance and world they created is great, just the gameplay,online stuff, and everything that makes it a game isn't.
So WKC definitely wasn't for me, which is a shame it looked so amazing, perhaps the sequel will be better.
