Street Fighter home ports through the years

In my experience, Genesis shined more often than SNES when it came to 2D action.
i always figured that was because of a) the faster processor and b) the "brighter" palette of colors. for some reason colors always looked washy on the snes to me.

Well, I am inclined to agree that the SNES CPU was something of a bottleneck for the system. It was actually a robust processor, but clocked down at 3.58 mhz and competing with Motorola 68000 in the Genesis? Now you know why the SNES features lots of special graphics manipulation and sound hardware. With the Genesis, even if the dev kits were out of date, there were hundreds of programmers familiar with the CPU from the early Macintosh, the Atari computers, and the Amiga, not to mention dozens of arcade hardware configurations. Good dev kits always help, but Sega did the right thing in sticking with well-known hardware. To be honest, Nintendo probably should have just used a higher-clocked 68000, or even a 68010. As it is, they gave SNES developers an uphill battle.

Still doesn't excuse the limited color palette, though. The PC Engine was already out in Japan when the Mega Drive was released there! They had to know that would hurt them!

I for one am glad the Genesis had its own weird color palette. It had its own feel. SNES was able to replicate the sounds and graphics of SF2 :WW because its hardware was similar to CPS1 than Genesis. Both are sweet, I really like Ryu stage on SF2:CE Genesis. The Dark blue clouods always flickered all cool over my crappy RF connection back in the day.

No, the SNES hardware wasn't similar to the CPS1 at all. In fact, the CPS1 had more hardware in common with the Genesis. Both were powered by a 68000 CPU, a Z80 for sound CPU, and a Yamaha FM synth chip. The CPS1 was a lot more powerful, but in terms of guts the Genesis was, to a degree, a stripped-down CPS1 with far punier graphics capabilities. The actual game code would have been a far easier port to the Genesis than any other system.

Remember there was even a decent Alpha 2 port for the SNES. The system held up well for Street Fighter and Turbo was lightening fast on the SNES when you used level 8 turbo.

had to look into that. Interesting they were so similar yet the MD version is by far the least like the arcade. The sound is just terrible.

Also I hated that the elephants were mute in the SNES versions of SF

Yeah, that port was quite impressive.
The Gameboy version of Alpha was pretty surprising as well :)
