I forgot about Ren and Stimpy. It was pure genius early on, but got crappy after the show creator was taken off of it. He eventually did get back control of his characters though and tried to bring the show back in '03 on Spike tv, but it didn't last long. Speaking of which, John Kricfalusi is pretty stuck up. He's known for bashing practically every popular animated show today from Simpsons to South Park to Family Guy as he doesn't feel that the animation quality is up to the standard of Ren and Stimpy.
Transformers the Movie polarizes people. Personally, I just loved how the movie upped the ante on everything. With the slick designs for the new transformers, the HUGE epic battles, the tons of deaths, the planet eating, the wonderfully cheesy eighties rock and the infamous swear word, the whole movie just seemed bigger, badder and more badass to me than anything the franchise had done before. It was darker, more violent and more action packed then anything I had seen when I was a kid and it just blew my mind. The deaths were unusually violent, even compared to anything animated today. I guess you can get away with a lot when you're killing robots rather than people. The movie enjoys cult hit status on a number of websites today, but was bashed critically when it came out. Like I said, polarizes people.

You don't like Ren and Stimpy, South Park OR Seinfeld. Dude! Where's your funny bone?marurun wrote:Well, I was with you until the Ren and Stimpy stuff. For some reason that one just rubbed me the wrong way. That and South Park are on my avoid list. Yes, they are funny from time to time, but just like Seinfeld, it's just not worth it.

I personally don't find South Park or Seinfeld that funny... and Ren and Stimpy feel very old and childish to me now (remember I DO like Foster's, so it's not a lack of child in me... mmm, child in me... kek).Gamerforlife wrote:You don't like Ren and Stimpy, South Park OR Seinfeld. Am I lacking a funny bone?
Then again, I just might be missing the proverbial funny bone (proverbial, heh, I've been really liking that word this week). Most people can't stand the stuff I find funny, and get very offended when I can't stand to watch what I call trash.

Thumbs up on the Futurama and South Park commentdragonsho wrote:
Justice league is awesome, I watched the whole series (JL and JLU) in about 2 or 3 weeks last year. I don't want to watch an ep again because I'll get hooked.
Home Movies
Hilarious show (to me at least) Stayed on Adult swim for 4 seasons even though it got barely any ratings (was also on at 1:30 I believe). Made by Loren Bouchard (of Dr. Katz fame) and Brendon Small (now working on Metalocalypse) and staring pretty much great comedians such as Jon Benjamin, Todd Barry, Mitch Hedberg, David Cross, Eugene Mirman and many others. Really hard to describe because it's lots of conversational humor, so if you dig that type of stuff like me, check out some clips of coach mcguirk on youtube.
Metalocalypse
My new favorite show that is on the air. I'm not a big fan of metal but this show is great. It's brutally violent but with humor of how dense and ignorant the biggest metal band in the world, Dethklok, is. Created by Brendon Small so right there it had me.
Futurama and Southpark for reasons said above.
That's all I can think of for now. Anyone else seen any of these show?
I think I remember seeing a few episodes of Home Movies. It had a certain charm, but I wouldn't say I loved it. It's definitely kind of a niche show I think
I hear some people praise Metalocalypse. Haven't checked it out myself, which is odd because I do kind of like metal. Not the the radio and MTV variety though(I love bands like Dark Tranquillity, Iced Earth, Nightwish, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, Children of Bodom, Dragon Force, etc)
Justice League was indeed awesome, The Cadmus arc was brilliant, Star Crossed was a fantastic movie animated or otherwise and I just really love the voice actors they got(Amy Acker as Huntress, awesome). Plus, I just love all the stuff they got away with on a kids show. There were implied swear words, quite a few sexual references and some of the subject material was certainly more interesting and relevant to an older audience. Also, I'm not even the biggest DC comics geek and yet I'm amazed at the number of comic book references they worked into the shows. This was show made by comic book geeks FOR comic book geeks

Wow, tHePhAnToM!??!
That was a trip down memory lane. I remember most of those shows. Voltron, GI Joe, Thundercats, He Man, those were the shows to watch when I was a kid, and of course the Disney stuff too(Darkwing Duck). I even remember some crazy stuff like Silver Hawks, Jason and the Wheeled Warriors, She Ra. I also remember a show called Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa only because Konami made a cool arcade game for it that never got ported to a console
Oh, and yes the pink ones are always hot. I'm ashamed to admit I even know this, but remember Amy Jo Johnson's first acting role?(if you can even call it that)
A few more mentions before I go get some sleep. I'm gonna be a mess tomorrow.
that MTV Spider-Man show with the CG effects. It was pretty decent.
Swat Kats-I really dug that show for some reason. Didn't last long though
Megas XLR-It's like someone just made a show about all the stuff geeky guys like
The Mafia pigeons from Animaniacs-Those guys were a riot

I find it strange
That there aren't more Japanese anime stuff in here. I guess it wasn't as hot in U.S. when you were younger? I'll be calling out some less obvious choices for you guys, as well (some are worth checking out even now that you're old).
Saint Seiya is really good (also known as Knight of the Zodiac), and Dragonball Z as well.
There was a time when there were a bunch of classic tales (Anne of Green Gables, Tom Sawyer etc) in sort of old anime style (without much violence, of course
) - these are good quality as well.
I think there were some spanish ones that crossed over that were also quite decent - the one with the "Muskerhounds" (I don't know the name in english, it is the 3 Musketeers with dogs instead of people), Around the world in 80 days (also with anthropomorphic animals), and David the Gnome and "sequel" The World of the Gnomes These are mostly for kids though.
But I agree that nearly all the Disney stuff used to be good (Duck Tales, Gummy Bears, etc. - Gargoyles as well, for a relatively recent example).
Ivo.
