Project Needlemouse (Sonic 4) Thoughts, opinions

Post by DCbrotha »

Now that Project Needlemouse is officially named with small trailer footage.

Question: What are your thoughts of the direction Sega has taken with Sonic as a HD side-scroller?

For me, I'm not too impressed with it yet. From what I have seen, I think Sega missed the boat first off by not making Sonic look similar to the classic sonics. Instead Sega, made him look like the Sonic Rush series. I just dont think it blends in with all the other 16 bit classics!

Another thing Im not sure how I feel about is the HD statement. Anything at this point can be considered HD from the 16-bit era, I believe they could have supported the game in better HD display. We all know that graphics are not everything but this is where I think Sega could have improved Sonic. Take a little more time and refine the game with a lush clean pallette of colors.

Aw man. Download only? It looks like it could be good but I'm unable to support it. Sonic is dead to me I guess.

I think this 2.5d sonic is the natural progression from sonic 1,2 and 3. In sonic 3 they are trying to make him look more 3-dimensional anyway, they just couldn't yet. I personally think he looks worse with each passing game, so I guess I agree in a way. I just think Sega always wanted him looking like this. Still, I think Sonic 4 is going to totally rule. I mean, this is what you've all been waiting for. I wouldn't let small nitpicky things ruin it for you.

I really hate the way Sonic looks. But I won't let it hamper my excitement. I'm going to wait and see how it pans out, if its a true return to form then I'll definitely be purchasing it.

Oh, I also have an issue with it being episodic. Unless of course each game is full length like the other sonic games, than my gripe is non-existent.

I dont lke the way sonic looks in this game (I didn't think he looked very good in sonic 3 either), but i'll remain cautiously optimistic for this. Whilst i don't think it'll live up to the old games (it needs to be something really special to have a chance vs the nostalgia goggles - Only megaman 9 has ever really managed it imo), i personally quite enjoy the 2D sonic GBA, NGPC and DS games, so if its like them, it should at leats be quite playable.

Personally, i thought sega were onto a winner with sonic unleashed if it wasnt for the werehog stages. The daytime stages feel exactly like what i expected 3d sonic to be like. I hope theor next project for sonic is like that but with just daytime stages (although not too soon - enough sonic spam sega!)

P.S. I hope they dont try too hard for a 'story' - the stories in new sonic games are pointless and horrendous.

I'm happy that you can only play as Sonic. No dumb stages where you have to play as Big the cat, Shadow, Silver, or any of the other characters Sonic Team has come up with. It would be nice to have the option to play as Knuckles though. He was the only secondary character I ever really liked.

i personally love the new way Sonics character design looks, im only disipointed in the fact that its in episodes, and its not retail

i mean it may not be the HD sprites we all woulda wished for but this isnt that bad at all :)

I really liked how the Green Hill stage in SA2 looked. so I love this. My main concern is that the episodes will be too short, if they're only a few levels i'll probably just hold out and hope for a compilation disc.

Considering I saw about 3 seconds of gameplay footage in the trailer, I really don't think theres enough info to make a opinion about it yet. The fact its DL only really kills it for me though. Also it says episode 1, and I have a bad feeling you'll have to pay extra to play the whole game which would be fucking bullshit. As much as I loved Final Fantasy IV, I refused to play the sequel on Wii due to Squareenix's price gouging pay per episode structure. Lets hope Sega doesn't go this route.
