Holy crap, anyone else know about this?
Wikipedia wrote:De La Jet Set Radio

After the public reported several bugs in the Original Japanese version of Jet Set Radio, Sega decided to re-release it under the name of De La Jet Set Radio. This version was only sold in Japan via Dreamcast Direct (now called Sega Direct) making it one of the more rare Dreamcast titles available. The gameplay in this version was easier to pick up and included the music, levels and characters from the European and US versions. The text featured in the game are localized in the main language of your Dreamcast, unlike the original Japanese version, which means that if your Dreamcast system is set to English language, the text in the game will be in English. The same goes for Japanese, German, French and Spanish.
Sounds like the ultimate version. Here's the songs we in America never had in our version:

# Recipe For The Perfect Afro - Feature Cast (PAL European Versions Only)
# Many Styles - O.B. One (PAL European Versions Only)
# Funky Plucker - Semi Detached (PAL European Versions Only)
# Dunny Boy Williamson Show - Deavid Soul (Japanese Version Only)

The only thing I can think of is the occasional camera issue in a corner or some slowdown when guns are ablazzin' around you.
Yes those. First of all, mapping L to both camera-forward and spray-paint was retarded. It really is one of the weirdest control mappings in all of game history. It made spraying much more difficult, especially airborn, because when you hit spray and missed the timing, it would make the camera spasm which then threw off the rest of your timing severely.

What should have been done was this:

L mapped to dash. The left side of a controller is usually associated to movement controls in games. It would have just felt more natural.

R mapped to spray. Most of us are right handed and it again would just make more sense. Also they should have used the pressure sensitivity to control the amount of spray, or maybe integrate it into the motions for fun. I always found the spray mechanic to be too damn simple.

The camera itself should have been far less troublesome, and if it were decent, we would not need a damn camera-fix button in the first place. But since we do, the Y button should have been used for it. Ideally, I would have liked the D-Pad to be used for camera controls. Tap up once fast to auto-face it, or just hold a d-pad direction for 360 degree camera positioning. The camera system badly needed some depth. From what I remember, the d-pad and X, Y, B weren't even used in this game.

Besides that, I found the soundtrack to be too limited and looped, and Cold & Rob Zombie have no fucking place in this game. Dumbest musical choice ever. I like those songs but they just don't fit here.

The stages were also re-used too often. I hated having to beat the same stage a second, third, or fourth time, and I was lucky if I even had access to a new sub-area within it.

The overall controls just frustrated me too often. Many points felt too stiff, like the jumps, and many felt too slippery, like the skating itself. Maybe I was just too spoiled with Tony Hawk 2. I think the gameplay in that was much more reliable.

Which then leads me to the absolutely limited and pointless trick system. It feels like they had something planned here but never really started.

Do I need to mention that 20 fucking second anti-graffiti screen on every boot up?

But hell, it's still a good game.
lol -- yeah, the camera spasms :) I got used to them, but it is funny to think about.
And we've had the conversation about the Cold & Rob Zombie music before. Personally, I liked it and thought it fit with the tone of the level. Having Rob Zombie playing during the opening cutscene still gives my shivers (in a good way). (Please note that up until recently, I was unaware how often that song has been used in other games). I thought the Jurassic 5 song was way more out of place than the other two US tracks.

And yeah, the reused levels is a bit disappointing, but considering that, they mixed up the gameplay on those levels to make it not feel like you were playing the same thing over. I was more like a different adventure in a town you were familiar with (which would be realistic).

And yeah, the skating are tricks aren't as polished as Tony Hawk, but keep in mind that wasn't the focus.

It's a real shame that Sega hasn't refined the series more (I didn't like some of their tweaks in Future).

Well we could just get a PAL copy to get those 3 exclusive PAL songs. Then we'd only be missing that Dunny Boy track. I was shocked by all this. I downloaded the official japanese OST, and then the supposed unreleased tracks which were of course the songs that were added to USA's. But this still didn't include the exclusive PAL tracks, and the Jap OST still didn't include that Dunny Boy song as far as I can tell. What a major musical disservice.

Shenmue 1/2
Jet Set Radio
Skies of Arcadia
Rez
Crazy Taxi
360 Gamer Tag = Kinn, PS3 Tag = xKINNx, Wii = 3036 8283 1247 3110
