Any success getting siblings into games?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Any success getting siblings into games?

Post by Mozgus »

I've had some mild success with my little sisters. There's been many failed attempts though. One of them absolutely loves the Metroids on GBA and Castlevania SOTN after I mentioned it was similar. She even had me burn the SOTN soundtrack to a disc. She's probably beaten both GBA Metroids 10 times each, and could surely speed run them better than me.

The other has been into a few PC FPSs which I've had over the years. Mostly Team Fortress Classic and Unreal Tournament 2004. She'd stop after 30 minutes usually, bet kept coming back to them maybe once a month whenever I had them installed.

They both however have always been absolutely addicted to Mario 3 and Kirby Adventure, whenever I let them borrow the NES. They also used to watch me play the Resident Evils and Silent Hills, but much like my friends, they are too afraid of playing them for some reason. And when they were very little, they'd watch me beat the Megamans on NES.

Nine brothers and sisters and none of them play a game.

However your sister that doesn't play many games but is pro at Metroid reminds me of a guy at work. He said he likes to play RE4 on GC which surprised me cause I didn't peg him as a gamer. Turns out that is the only console and only game he has. He plays it every week since it came out and is better at it than I will ever be. Strange to be so into one game, an no others. But no, never had to battle with siblings over turns on the consoles.
Let my legs shake me to sleep, and don't wake me when I sweat on my sheets.

My younger brother like RTSs and racing sims.
I'll also get him to play some FPSs and party games on occasion.

My sister is pretty much an rpg genius now. I blame me and my older brother playing most every snes and ps1 rpg we could get our hands on. My sister on the other hand has ran through ps2, ds, and gba rpgs like gangbusters. I cant stand these modern rpgs , and no longer play them anymore.....

My brother already plays, like I do (although with work and so on, he plays much less - I still manage to play a good bit, but I guess he has other priorities).

It was actually the opposite for me. i got into games and especially rpg's on the snes watching my older brother play them. I would play from time to time, but he was so much better than me i liked just watching. I eventually got the hang of the harder games for my age and learned to love 'em.

Now i have almost every system, at least the ones I consider worth playing and I have started my nephew on NES and SMS at the age of 6, im gunna let him go to SNES/Genesis in a few months, then to Saturn/N64 and so on. I want him to have the 'natural' progresion like everyone should.

Get this: my older brother's 2nd grade teacher told my parents that they should buy him a nintendo to improve his hand/eye coordination. So that's how we got our first console. He is the one who really got me interested in gaming. Anyhow, he was really into gaming until high school, and then became more of a casual gamer. Every time we get together we play some console classics, mostly SNES stuff... But, also a bit of NES, N64, Gamecube, and Wii. That's about where it ends for him, though.

My little brother is into more mainstream gaming. He's got a PS2 and loves the latest and greatest PC games. No prodding necessary for him either. I guess I am just lucky.

Now, if only I could get my wife interested in more game types...

I don't play a lot of games with my siblings.

The only other kids other then me that play games are my brother's Tobin and Mark, and my sister and her husband.

My sister really only likes Guitar Hero and Halo. That and we don't really get along. Mark is into the mainstream PS2 games, sports, FPS, the sort.

As for Tobin... we are kinda the same. The prob is, we both are 1 player kinda gamers. He likes stuff like the older Civ's, Railroad Tycoon, SimCity, RTS games and the sort. We sometimes can get into a good match of Civ 4 or Risk on the PS2.

It kinda sucks, there isn't many people around my area... actually no one at all, who enjoy the kinda games I like. I like RPG's like Lunar and Shining Force, and side scrolling platformers or actiony kinda games from the Genesis and Sega Saturn. I'm lucky to find people who even know what the Saturn is...

it probably doesn't help that my entire family all live like 1500 miles away though... heh.

[EDIT]

When I was younger gaming was a much bigger thing between me and my siblings though. I know my late brother Ian and I used to jam out the ToeJam and Earl constantly. Until one of us would strangle the other for the ship piece. My mother would then ground us for a week or two... questioning the whole time, "What the hell is a shit piece anyway?"

Or my older brothers would pin me in bets against their friends in games like Mortal Kombat. And high scores in shm'ups. I'd smear every teenagers ass all over the proverbial 16-bit highway.

I've actually had better times with my cousin, long ago. There were many noteworthy events. He was the first person to show me the Megaman series, starting with Megaman 2. A few years later, I become the designated Megaman Helper Guy at his place, for him and his friends. Between the both of us, we had the MM 1-6 set.

We also got into a monthly routine of beating TMNT2 on NES every time he came over. And right after or before that, we would beat Contra. We just never got bored of those two games.

He also exposed me to the fantastic Solar Jetman, while also torturing me with Yo Noid! If you don't know what that is, be happy.

We were also big into Mortal Kombat 1 and 2, and Eternal Champions at one time. And had some good times with F-Zero.
