I'm using component cables. Not having any problems or anything just curious
What does the PS2 output while playing PS1 games?
What does the PS2 output while playing PS1 games?
240p? or does it scale to 480i? I tried to google around a bit and i have read that it does upscale and it doesn't

I'm pretty sure that while using the component cables, the ps2 upscales.
Re: What does the PS2 output while playing PS1 games?
Some of my games won't display over component, not sure why.
Re: What does the PS2 output while playing PS1 games?
I believe they are displayed at the original resolution. Except for games that display 480I or better my component to VGA box says "unsuported" right after the Playstation logo disappears.

I just tried a handful of PS1 games and my TV reported it was in 480i at all times. I tried both 3D and 2D games, and one had a high res title screen.

I tried that to and it always says 480i .. but i highly doubt that if its was 240p the TV would say so. I have a feeling it would just say 480i. Try it with your SNES and see if it says 240p. PS2 is the oldest console i have at the moment

Svideo (which is the best you get unmodded from PS1 and SNES), composite, and RF are going to be 480i signals. The console itself is taking whatever resolution the game is in and shooting out a standard color 480i signal over whatever kind of cables you have hooked up.

I was under the impression that an SNES and a PS1 where 240p and not 480i. A quick google will confirm this. Which is why i asked what a ps2 does to a ps1 game since it has real PS1 hardware inside.. kinda hard to find a straight answer.Hobie-wan wrote:Svideo (which is the best you get unmodded from PS1 and SNES), composite, and RF are going to be 480i signals. The PS2 has the same CPU as the PS1 (MIPS R3000A, which the PS2 uses as it's I/O processor, kinda like the northbridge of a PC), but not the same video buffer.fuctfuct wrote:I was under the impression that an SNES and a PS1 where 240p and not 480i. Internal PS1 game code is processed natively on the R3000A CPU. Video buffering is done on the PS2's video chip, which is why it's a little different to PS1 native (and why it can do things like various texture blurring/softening filters).

From this article it looks like the ps2 does output 240p even with component cables

- Metal Slug X (PSOne): a classic 240p title, I use a PStwo via Component or RGBS video to display it.
Good read and pretty much answers all my questions.- Metal Slug X (PSOne): a good deinterlacer should not try to deinterlace the game.
