Anyone hate when people want to borrow your stuff?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Anyone hate when people want to borrow your stuff?

Post by Gamerforlife »

It seems like there is some unspoken rule, that when you get friendly with someone, it is okay for them to borrow your things. If you say no, it's like you're some kind of jerk.

Well I HATE letting people borrow my things. I have a copy of Gauntlet: Dark Legacy I lent a friend. He let his stupid girlfriend(who was never actually his girlfriend but just using him since he was so whipped he'd do anything she asked)borrow it and I never got it back. I mentioned it to him once and he said he'd get it back but never did. She doesn't even talk to him anymore and I stopped hanging out with him. That game's gone

You know another reason I hate lending things to people is because of the fragile nature of DVDs and the unpredictable effects that damage has on them. If someone borrows a game or movie DVD and damages it, you aren't going to know by just putting the disc in and seeing if it starts up. The error could occur at some random place in the game or movie. This means that if I wanted to ensure that everything I lend out is in good condition when I get it back, I'd have to actually play the whole game or watch the whole movie again. Very annoying

I hate the whole borrowing phenomenom. If you want to watch a movie or play a game that I own, you can do it at my house or just buy your own copy.

It is just me who is like this?

Oh, and by the way, this rant is inspired by someone I know actually telling someone else they could borrow my copy of Hot Fuzz. Like people have the right to lend out movies that they don't even own. Grrrr

Doesn't bother me at all, but then, my friends are, I suppose, more responsible. It would appear that we each have a shelf in our homes for borrowed things -- something that just kinda grew out of the whole borrowing lifestyle. Works out quite nicely -- if ever I want something back, its right there. Usually things get lent in the spirit of sharing something rare and great: "You would love this, take it."

So, rather than being something annoying, its a positive experience for my little circle. Granted, there are a few people in this circle who -- slackass stoners they are, don't get to borrow my shit. I have some friends who are very rich, and for whatever reason, fail to see the value of returning things; so they too, don't get to borrow my shit. But for my core friends, my house and most everything in it is open for sharing.

I don't hate it when people ask, but when I lend something to someone and it comes back destroyed I get very mad.
I'm too friendly, I've lost a good 20 or so CDs too that, a few rare DVDs, and a few games (mainly disc based games as carts are practically indestructable).

I tend to not lend anything anymore, especially important stuff, unless I trust em and have see that they treat their own stuff well.

I know how you feel mate.

I've had this happen to me loads of times. Hate it when they just lose the film/game or that it get damaged. Or when you get it back and the packaging has like got coffee stains (or even worse) on it!

God, I know just how you feel. I have the fastest computer in the house, and my older broth likes to play online games. Every time I let him borrow my computer he would say he'd be off in an hour and then get involved in something he can't walk away from, and play for 2-3 hours. Sometimes I would find new programs on my desktop. The final straw was when he got on my computer without asking for the second time that day, and I told him I wanted him to apologise, he very rudely told me that he asked and that I had just forgotten. I told him to log off and he wouldn't, and when he finally did I uninstalled the program.

Rather than apologise for that, he went ahead and wiped all my files off the PS2 and Gamecube memory cards. It took a full week for us to really get over it, and I got a PS2 with a memory card for my room so this never happens again.

I just put sticky notes inside the jewel case to remind them to return it back

Yeah Iknow, but worse is the files I lost, Gran Turismo 4 (I HAD AN INTERNATIONAL A LICENCE! :x ), Sonic Riders (100%ed), Tony Hawk's Underground (100%ed two times over!) THUG2 (completed story mode) Tony Hawks American Wasteland (100%ed) Sonic Heroes (PS2 version is hyper glitchy but I beat it anyway) God it sucks so much!

Only a week? Wow. He is family though, but if a friend did that to me. Friendship over. No apologies, nope, over.

That's the kind of stuff you expect crazy ex-girlfriends to do. It's sad when it's your own brother. No offense to you, but that would really make me angry
