Are you sure about that? I ran some races in what I thought was 1080i and it looked a lot better than when in 480p. Maybe it's just the component cables making things look better across the board. It did look pretty good in widescreen component cable mode on my new Vizio.

I also tried a bit of 480p mode on Beyond Good and Evil and it looked incredible for such an old game and old system. Sounds horrible, but now I can't wait for the wife to go away on that business trip in February! At least she can rest assured I won't be out cheating on her since I'll be glued to the new TV playing games the whole time she's gone! ;)

Well unless you lot got a different version of GT4 (wouldn't surprise me to be honest, Sony ALWAYS shafts PAL) the hires mode is only available in the photo mode.

Well, it does look like perhaps PAL got boned again (from Wikipedia): "GT4 supports 480p/1080i (NTSC only) and widescreen modes, however 1080i is only supported in single player races."

Not trying to rub it in or anything, but it does look fantastic in 1080p racing mode.

Actually on my HD TV, GT4 and Tourist Trophy shows at 1080i during gameplay.

According to this only NTSC would get 1080i:

PAL only gets 480p.
:(

However, only 2 games listed above are affected. You still get 480p.

Eugh. Thought as much. Sony fucking suck. Why do they always do this to us? We have slower games (not so much a problem now we all use a standardised TV system) later ports, missing features, more expensive, later console releases with worse features (I'm looking at you launch PS3 with software emulation, we never got a version of PS3 with full backwards compatibility). Could this company treat Europe any worse?

No mention of the Blaze VGA adapter? Apparently the boot disk will force games to run at 640x480 progressive through an included VGA cable. I saw and heard good things about it a while back, but haven't tried it. My PS2's modchip (ChipMod Pro+ 2.0 - Modbo 4 clone) will do the same resolution and output hack if I had one of the VGA cables.

Okay then, the cooler packaging for Ico wasn't available in the States if I recall correctly. We rarely get the limited edition/collectors edition of games that the Asian and European markets get/have gotten.

Feel any better?

It's the least they can do, you get the games earlier and you pay less for them. Every once in a blue moon we get an exclusive, it's very very very very rare though. I bet the amount of exclusives you got in the states far outweigh the ones we got. However... let's not turn this into one those threads.
