bacteria wrote: As to the battery - same issue as you had, the one I got designed for the PSP 2000 or 3000 slim didn't want to close in the case, removed the top of the battery and it did, even bent the battery terminals to ensure they maintained good contact with the PSP and the PSP still didn't want to know before. Guess the PSP battery has a validation chip in it to only run official batteries, even if the battery in question is suitable otherwise.

BTW - if you look on Amazon as the link above suggests - you only also seem to see pics of the rip-off Chinese PSP memory cards....

Where to buy proper ones, cheaply? Ideas?
I bought my extended life battery for $39 off Amazon. It comes with a couple of covers so that it will fit in the slims. You just can't buy good batteries cheaply unfortunately.
I was lucky that I scored another new slim battery from someone on Craigslist for $5 one time.

I had great results with the white 2 Microsd adapter. Cheapest way to get 16GB on a PSP.

Good Anapan, hoping mine does too. Paid about £7 for a 4Gb MicroSD card and SD adaptor and £1.67 for a MicroSD > PRO PSP adaptor. 4Gb is enough for what I need.

As mentioned before, looks like Amazon sticks are fakes too, unfortunately. The adaptor route would be far far cheaper.

From the Amazon marketplace, it's possible but if not if you buy directly from Amazon or a reputable seller.

Which listing do you think is fake?

You also have to take the "how to spot a fake" guides with a grain of salt. The manufacturer do make changes to the product from time to time.

The only thing I would mentioned regarding the converters is that if it's not magic gate (which only official and sanctioned -- IE Sandisk -- Memory Sticks are) it won't work with certain bits of homebrew and PSP-PSX games (IE the unofficial PSX games converted for use with pops-loader) however this probably won't affect you since I don't think you can downgrade that version of PSP. Yet.

It is something to bear in mind. I thought I'd be smart and get an 8GB M2 Memory stick, since they were cheaper (y'know the really small one for use in cameras/phones) and a M2 to Pro-duo converter. Despite them both having magic gate written on them, just wouldn't let me boot my PSP-PSX games and certain bits of homebrew, however the exact same files copied directly onto my 1GB sandisk Memory Stick Pro-Duo worked perfectly. However all of my .cso files work perfectly on the M2. It's really weird.

Interesting stuff.

As you say, I can't downgrade for homebrew and emulation, although frankly, i'm not really interested in the hassle of downgrading the PSP, learning what does and doesn't work on emulation, how to copy across in certain ways, blah blah; and then also having to navigate lots of menus to load a game and remember what buttons do what on various emulators, like on the GP2x - hassle.

I prefer original games on original hardware; no compromises then on framerates, audio quality, stretched screens, artifacts, etc.

What I want though is to store a pile of films I don't own on UMB discs onto a memory card along with MP3's; so I am more inclined to upgrade the firmware than downgrade it!

Little tip to check if a ms pro duo is fake or not is to go to any category video, music or game go to memory stick icon and check information. It should say magicate supported, if it doesn't its a fake stick. Also plastic packaging for original sticks is almost imposible to open by hand only.
