WHEN do you get to play?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

WHEN do you get to play?

Post by pixelbender »

Hey guys and gals,

I started retro gaming more recently because I've graduated college and have a full time job, and some of the older games are easier to pick up and play for a few minutes here and there, which is all I get (well that, and my first non-portable system was the Dreamcast my senior year of HS, which I fell in love with).

I'd like more time to play, but it just seems there is always something else going on. My question to you, is WHEN do you play? HOW do you get away from things and set aside time?

I have a Genesis, NES, SNES, N64, Saturn, DC, Xbox, Wii, GBM, and a 360. I'm not short on stuff to play, just time! (BTW, I mentioned these systems b/c, anyone have any suggestions for short games???)

While I haven't done this in a month or so, I usually take my DS Lite or GP2X to work so I can play at lunch.
But I also have my Sega machines hooked up to the LCD in my office, so I'll usually switch on a game when I need a break from writing or organizing in the evenings.

I used to game mostly at night since it's the only time I'm not bothered by anyone(including pets). The lack of sleep does get to me sometimes though so I don't do that much anymore. It doesn't help that my work shift usually starts at five in the morning. I've been gaming much more sporadically lately, not just because of a lack of free time, but also because of me spending more time of late READING about games. My recently renewed interest in retrogaming has me spending more time reading about older games I didn't know about. I've been reading a lot of stuff from here http://hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/

I recently redid my family room and bedroom. I put the more modern stuff like the 360 and PS 2 in the family room. I have older systems like the genesis, super Nintendo, Saturn, N64 and Dreamcast in my room. This is nice because the older games you can quickly get into and make a lot of progress in a short amount of time. This means I can get in a quick game of Super Punch Out, Contra Hard Corps or whatever before I have to get to sleep at night for work. On weekends, when I have a LITTLE more free time, I hang out in the family room and play stuff on the PS2, Gamecube, whatever.

My only portable is a Gameboy Advance and also an SP, but I don't really use them since I really don't get any opportunities to game when I'm not at home.

My gaming library is getting so big lately that when I do get time to game, I just don't know what to play

I multitask if I feel up to it after work. Meaning I do my internet browsing, check my email, and what not while treking through Chrono Cross. Granted I havent gotten more than an hour into it. Other than that I have Friday night and sometimes Saturday morning when I dont have to work another job or have a meeting/appointment. Overall I average about an hour a week.

Ofcourse this will all change after September, both Dragoncon and AWA are sucking my videogaming time into boardgames/wargames that I need to prepare for said conventions. Then I have a couple months lull until I need to rev up for Momocon. I still havent found enough gameboy players...
