So I'm Finally Playing Through Half-Life...

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Same with me, the only time something scares me is when it comes out of no where and I'm like, "aw crap! I need to kill that"...Usually, I'm more worried about dying in the game than all the "spooky" stuff. FEAR was hilarious though. They tried so hard to make it scary, but I ended up thinking that it was the shittiest scary stuff I've ever seen. I just hated how you could lose so much life in the "scary" parts.

Half-Life is somewhat scary. I think genuinely it isn't meant to scare you, but you could definitely be surprised by some of the stuff you see. Personally, FPSes more surprise me than scare me.

@the Unreal comment, the game needs to be a bit shorter to match the pacing of HL. I've been playing Unreal recently and I just got to Na Pali Castle, the one in the beginning sequence, and a lot of the parts ever since the section inside the space ship felt unnecessary. Honestly, the space ship level felt like a final level to me...But that's another game Racketboy needs to play if he hasn't.

Racketboy, play Unreal if you haven't! Not as good as Half-life, but still a great game. :)

Oh, and ramatut, I'd think playing Half Life on the PC would be better because the controls should be much better and you might be able to do some forced AA if your gfx card allows for it. :)

Half-life, man that game brings back memories.

When I first bought it, I didn't really have a computer desk, and had it set up on two night stands. Of course this meant I had to sit on the floor, since a chair would have been too high.

I used to play that game for hours on end, and always had the hardest time controlling it, because I didn't know I could use the mouse. After I figured that out, it was smooth sailing.

I hated those damned head crabs jumping out of nowhere, and usually when I was down to my crowbar. Then when the military showed up..ugh. I always enjoyed watching them fight it out with the "others" though. I have to say, I used to root for the aliens.

One of the best things about that game was the audio. I loved the music, especially the snippet that comes up after you launch a rocket into space. And the ending...the G-man is probably one of the creepiest parts of the entire game.

I think I might have to go out and buy it again.

You must have nerves of steel or something.
You aren't even startled by a head crab jumping out of nowhere or anything?
My scare gland shriveled up and died a long time ago, I suppose. There's never even been a movie that scared me, 'cept maybe when I was a toddler.

And why would you be scared of a headcrab? They take like 1hp.

Oh and you have the version of HL1 with CDDA tracks on the CD right? I hope you're not just playing the Steam version. If you are, you're missing out on all but 3 songs, and those three songs are very low quality mp3s. HL1 Source has the entire soundtrack as MP3s built in, fortunately. You dont want to play this game without the awesome music.

I'm not scared of them per-se, but they startle me at times when I'm not expecting them. Not that I've gotten farther, I tolerate them a bit more.
However, I think I'm getting motion sickness after playing for a while. I'm not used to PC FPS...
Now that I think of it, I got motion sickness when I sat close to my display when playing Timesplitters 2 on my Cube -> TV tuner card.

Also, I've never dealt with Steam at all, so that would be a no to that issue.

As did I, man. Ran a clan with a friend and everything. Those days were so pure.
