Space Channel 5 - quite hard!

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Space Channel 5 - quite hard!

Post by Ivo »

I'm having quite the tough time with Space Channel 5. I had no idea it was this hard.

Or is it just me?

(Took me like 30 tries to get 15% rating on first level to pass it! I think I'm getting a bit better at it, though).

Ivo.

It's not hard, you just have to get a feel for it. Try not to think too much, I found Space Channel 5 is one of those games where I do best by just kind of going on auto-pilot. Eventually, you get into this zone. It's easier I think if you really listen to the music, instead of just trying to quickly memorize each set of instructions

A lot of people think the game is hard, until that moment where it all just clicks.

First level isn't too hard (you do need practice though)
But halfway through the 2nd level it gets pretty tough.
I wanna say my wife got to the third level and she's pretty good with rhythm games.

I remember having difficulty with the first level and walking away from the game.

I need to play that again.

I wish I had more helpful tips, but I can say it's a game that worth playing through for anyone having a tough time so keep practicing. I don't play many rhythm games and I eventually got good enough to beat Space Channel 5 more than once. Like I said before, you eventually just hit this zone and it gets much easier. I think the patterns stay the same, so eventually you may end up memorizing some of them which may help.

There's some good stuff to look forward to. The second stage boss is cool. Stage 3 is just one awesome wild ride, and the last stage is one of the best end of game experiences ever. I think a lot of love went into this game, but maybe there should have been some kind of easy mode to help people since the game does seem a little advanced(no visual cues like other rhythm games have).

I'll give you a little warning, there is one beat at the end of the last level that you MUST get or it's game over. I HATED that!

On another negative note, the second Space Channel 5 is said to be even harder. I've never played through my copy of the game so I don't know if it's true

Too right it's hard. One way to make it slightly easier (unless you don't do well at DDR) would be to use a DDR mat. The sequel doesn't work with it, but the first one does perfectly.

The game takes a while to click, but once it does it's quite short and easy. Very good, though, don't get me wrong. Play it a while. I even passed that 100 line marathon mode in the second game.

Weird! I just picked this game up a few days ago and am playing it. Definitely has a certain charm. Took me a couple tries to get past the first level. Got into the second one and haven't played though the rest yet. Looking forward to it.

I have the PS2 Special Edition. Is the second disc the sequel, or are there just two discs with the game?

The PS 2 version has both the first and second game. Originally, the second game was released on the Dreamcast in Japan only. The second game is the real reason I got that PS 2 special edition and yet I never played it for more than a couple minutes. Too many games, not enough time.

IMO the second game is much better. You should check it out if you liked the first.
