I'm looking to start backing up my game saves to my computer for various games on various systems. What are the best transfer devices for the PS 1, PS 2, Xbox, Dreamcast, and N64.
I've heard people mention Dexdrives, Codebreakers and various other things but I want to know what the best devices are, especially for the Xbox considering the idiotic policy to not offer the option of using memory cards for most of its games. That leaves me up a certain creek if my Xbox hard drive ever crashes, since most of those saves couldn't be backed up to a memory card.
Best data transfer devices

For PS2, I recommend getting an Action Replay Max. Not because I think it's awesome at backing up saves (it's slow and clunky), but because you can use it to perform a "softmod" and install uLaunchELF on your memory card, which is awesome at backing up saves. I've yet to try it with a PS1 memory card in slot 2, but I don't see why it wouldn't work... I'll have to dig around and give it a go this weekend. uLaunchELF is pretty easy to install and setup, though its GUI is fairly minimalistic. The speed and additional flexibility more than makes it worth it, though.
Plus, you can always use the ARM to unpack saves you snag from GameFAQs.
As far as the Xbox goes, nothing tops the ol' softmod method. Softmod it, fire up the FTP server, and back up every damn save game you've got. You get the added bonus of being able to load up lots of homebrew (Xbox Media Center is impressive and the selection of emulators should take care of most of your needs). Best of all, you'll be able to play Metal Wolf Chaos. Woo.
Can't help with DC or N64...never used any devices to connect those memory cards to my PC. I'm interested in possibly using an N64 solution so that I can back up some of my old stuff...I heard the adaptoid worked awesome, but it hasn't been available for years

Thanks for the response, gave me some ideas I hadn't though of. If anyone else has anything to add, please feel free.
It's nice that there's lots of options out there. Don't you wish there had been a way to back up S-NES and Genesis saves before people's batteries died? It's kind of sad Nintendo and Sega didn't really think ahead(or just didn't care)
