Now that we have SD cards and the like I personally see no need for a ZIP drive. Why use a special disc and a big honkin' drive for 100MB when I can have 2GB on a card the size of my fingernail?
And, heh, SyQuest drives. I never owned one but I knew people who did. If I recall the discs were so sensitive that if you were a smoker the smoke in the air could damage the disc. But maybe that was just a rumor.
Anybody still use zip?
i cannot believe that there are other people out there who still use those
A while ago my dad gave me a box with stuff he didnt want that i could have. the stuff i didnt need (old mp3 player, wireless headphones) i took around to different stores and tried to pawn for some money. However, no one would take this old 11 meg serial zip drive with about 30 or 40 disks.
so then i downloaded the drivers and started to use it myself, and i love it. I keep all kinds of stuff on it, its easier and rewriteable and tougher than CDs, also i just prefer Carts and things like that to disks nowadays. i cant believe there are still people who use them.
When i build my new desktop im gonna track down an internal drive for it.

The 750MB one has bad compatability tho, so you may want to look for a better one on eBay...

I still use ZIP disks solely on my Z64 system.
If you don't know what a Z64 is, check this link: http://n64.icequake.net/mirror/www.z64. ... 64info.htm

I definitely wouldn't! If it's worth $500 now, think how much it'll be worth in a year, maybe 2, 3, 10?! Well, if it still works by then...devante wrote:Yes, it's a no-too-uncommon mod on the Z64.
You just use an IDE-to-miniIDE adapter and upgrade the power supply a little.
I've seen pictures before (can't find them right now).
Z64's are pretty rare these days.
Someone offered me $500 for mine last year. I couldn't part with it!
