Awful search capabilities on this site?

Post by gtmtnbiker »

The forum search capability for this site is pretty awful. I had thought that the Google custom search would be better but I'm finding that is flawed as well.

Can anyone comment on why entering the keyword "nasa" fails to find these two threads?

I found them. Maybe your google-fu is lacking.

Type in "nasa" with the quotations.

Nope, that doesn't do it for me. I'm referring to the google search at the top. Here's what I see:

Ok, I did find those threads using the forum search but the Google custom search did not find them.

WTF?

There are instances where the forum search fails to find stuff but the Google Custom search finds them.

Yup, sometimes you need to use both.

A couple of recent examples for me were:

hdl_dump & winhiip

The forum search fails to find this thread:

http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... &sk=t&sd=a

But google custom search fails to find it.

The inconsistent search capabilities for this site is maddening. Are there any plans to fix/improve the search function?

Forum searches generally are a pain in the ass, welcome to the internet.

I haven't had issues with the search on some other sites that I use heavily. Good, working search is essential for avoiding rehash of existing topics.

This has been an issue since I started coming to the site. Racket has his people working on it but I am unsure if anything has come from it.
