Yes there was and it was really good.

You take that back RIGHT NOW or I'll come over there and beat the snot out of you. Disney distributed it here and probably helped arranged the dubbing, but credit for its awesomeness goes to Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.
YES PITCHFORKS AT THE READY!

Don't know how I missed that mistake.

Publish–verb (used with object)
1. to issue (printed or otherwise reproduced textual or graphic material, computer software, etc.) for sale or distribution to the public.
2. to issue publicly the work of: Random House publishes Faulkner.
3. to announce formally or officially; proclaim; promulgate.
4. to make publicly or generally known.
5. Law. to communicate (a defamatory statement) to some person or persons other than the person defamed.

Publish means to distribute a work. God forbid Disney have any creative control over that movie. It would have been filled with many singing animals and musical numbers quite quickly.

All righty then. Just something about your post came across that made it sound like you were giving them credit. Carry on.

Looks like my last set of reviews was way back on November 20th, so I have quite a few to clear out of the queue! I know you all missed my long-winded opinionated entries.

The Wrestler (2008) – This movie really impressed me. I should mention that I am not nor have I ever been a fan of pro wrestling, but anyone who thinks that a love for the “sport” is any kind of prerequisite for enjoying this movie is way off. Simply put, this is one of the more humanizing movies I've seen – and another home run for one of my favorite directors. A good argument can also be made that the incidental and end credits music actually moves the film from good to great. I don't know what accolades I can add to this movie that haven't been heaped upon it already, but as I posted in an earlier entry it is a damn fine film.
Grade: 4.5/5

Run Fat Boy Run (2007) – This was a nice surprise, although I shouldn't have expected any less from the consistently funny Simon Pegg. Though parts were quite predictable, I thought that the race at the end had some nice surprises and was (no pun intended) well paced. The supporting cast is also quite good, and they really flesh out what could have been stereotypical bit parts – the writing in the film is less than inspiring, but the cast rises above.
Grade: 3/5

Midnight Movie (2008) – I'm a sucker for horror films about horror films, and one of my recent favorites is the Masters of Horror episode Cigarette Burns which was directed by John Carpenter. Perhaps because this was the last “horror movie about horror” I'd seen prior to this film, my expectations were too high. This film really tries to be kitschy and inventive (they even make references to how cool “cult films” are) but the supernatural elements proved to be too much of a reach, the victims were entirely unsympathetic, and the director always seems to miss the most suspenseful/horrific angles and moments. The opening and ending scenes were probably the best parts of the film, and the killer's look is pretty cool. Otherwise, not much to see here from my perspective.
Grade: 2/5

Taken (2008) – Liam Neeson plays this kind of role better than I thought he might, and the movie was a fun one to watch. And while it probably doesn't contain anything you haven't seen before (the stunts, fights, plot, etc. are all found in other films), it blends these elements together nicely.
Grade: 3/5

Star Trek (2009) – I was really hesitant to see this film, despite all the acclaim. I'm not a self-identified Trekkie, but I have seen all the films, most of the original series, almost all of the TNG, and a few episodes each of the later franchises. I wasn't keen on a franchise reboot with new actors, I'm not a fan of Abrams (or Lost), and I was suspicious that this was a “youth-centric” CGI fueled cash grab. After seeing it, I think I was partially right (it is all those things), but I liked it nonetheless. The casting choices were mostly strong (although the Spock choice seems wrong to me), and the film really starts strong in the first third before collapsing under it's own weight in the second half. The plot itself is only somewhat interesting, and the film would basically fall apart without Nimoy's participation. It was good enough to make me want to see the inevitable sequel, but probably not in the theaters. I'd still rank most of the original films above this one.
Grade: 3/5

For a Fistful of Dollars (1964) – Ok – confession time. I spoke with authority about the famous Dollars Trilogy in some previous posts, but later realized I had only seen bits and pieces of the third film (I was confusing some later Eastwood films with these mid-60s classics). Anyway, I took this realization as an opportunity to watch them all in their entirety. This is the first film in the trilogy, and it is indeed a stylistic departure from most Westerns that came before and completely deserving of its reputation. Though the plot is full of intrigue and well paced, two other things - the sparse score and Eastwood's embodiment of machismo – really drive the film. An impressive supporting cast, dry wit, and several great action scenes flesh out this engaging movie.
Grade: 4/5

For a Few Dollars More
(1965) – Though stylistically very similar to the first film, I found the sum of parts here to be a little less substantive. Perhaps it was the fact that Eastwood is partnered up for the second half of the film, or the fact that the bank robbery/El Paso setting seemed more cliché than the environments of the first film...it just wasn't as interesting or captivating. That's not to say it's not a strong film for all the reasons the first one was, but I just didn't enjoy it quite as much.
Grade: 3.5/5

Madagascar 2 (2008) – Lots of good laughs, pretty much on par with the first one. Sure, the animation isn't especially impressive, it's hard not to keep identifying the characters with their voice actors, and the film is as predictable as most any other kids movie – but it's lots of fun nonetheless.
Grade: 3/5

As I'm on winter break, I'm watching a lot of movies right now to try and clear out my DVR backlog – so expect some frequent updates for a little while...you know you're dying to read them!
