Best PS1 model?

I am trying to find a good PSX. I know the later models are best. I bought the original on 95/9/9. I ended up having to not only turn the system upside but sometimes put it in the freezer to make it work. So 5000 or 7000 series?

Actually, most people say that the earliest models are best, because they have composite ports, a headphone jack, and superior audio quality.

I think the PSone (smaller, more compact, most recent version) would be the best in terms of durability, but I don't really know about quality differences.

Yeah, I'm not aware of any significant quality issues between the 5000 and 7000 series, or 9000 for that matter. The 1001, like you mentioned has the plastic guide in the laser assembly that inevitably fails. You can get composite and stereo audio out of the multi-out AV port, so there's not really any reason to go with that one. Any rumors you may have heard about using the SCPH-1001 as a CD player are superstitious audiophile nonsense. The PSOnes were made in China, so they're probably crap.

Did check wiki on this topic, man, I didn't know there was a ton of versions that were released over its lifespan.

I did have a middle-line model, which did have problems with FMV, but was later given to one of my bro's buddy, right after I got the PSone, which didn't have any problems with FMV.

Has anyone posted a full-detailed report on this topic along with photos of comparison?
