On a side note, I really like PSP UMDs because of their cartridge like cases. Kind of wish all discs had those personally.
I lost my copy of Fallout 3 (disk only) in a box and it had scuffs on it, then I wiped it with a lense cleaner, it looks brand new I dont like UMDs though, mine were always breaking The little cases would sometimes split after a while.
ARGG!! I have to rage one tiny bit over losing my Mega Man X remake over the UMD cover case splitting apart.
As for Blu-ray on the other hand...everything from lighters to Xacto knives...just look on youtube.
One of the guys I work with at GameStop will always respond to this question by taking a used copy of the 50 Cent PS3 game, try to scratch it with his keys, and then wipe away to reveal the lack of damage.
So yeah, they're tough. I sure as hell wouldn't intentionally do this sort of thing, but it's nice to know I don't have to worry about buying used PS3 games.
Wow, so it's true then. They are tough. As a new PS 3 owner that's great to hear. I picked up three used games when I bought it(Folklore, Heavenly Sword and R&C:Tools of Destruction)and I thought the discs looked surprisingly good for used titles. I guess that's relatively normal with PS3 games if they are built that tough. Sony seems to be the only company that gives a crap about the longevity of their discs. I give them credit for that.
You know I have a Metal Gear Solid 4 disc I got used and that actually DOES have scratches, which makes me wonder what the hell the previous owner must have done to it. To the PS3's credit though, I popped the disc in it and it still works though, but I think I'll bring the disc back to the store and exchange it for another copy anyway.
As for the PSP, I've heard some people have issues with UMDs breaking, but it's never happened to me and I have quite a few UMDs. I'm extremely careful with them though and I usually use my PSP at home rather than travelling around with it and its games.
I'm glad I got the PS3. Valkyria Chronicles is just plain awesome and I really enjoyed R&C Tools of Destruction too. Not too keen on Heavenly Sword though, but I'll give it another chance at some point.
