So are blue ray discs really as tough as they say?

Post by Gamerforlife »

I've heard that they have a hard plastic coating that makes them more resistant to scratches than other optical media. Some of you have had PS 3 for awhile. I just got one recently. In your experience, do they seem much harder to scratch?

On a side note, I really like PSP UMDs because of their cartridge like cases. Kind of wish all discs had those personally.

Truth. I haven't done an X-ACTO scratch test or anything, but yeah...Blu Rays are tough as nails.

Considering that 90% of my Blus are from the Criterion Collection, I think I'll pass.

So....you like mostly foreign films that are released prior to 1975 and have a small collection.

Lol. I say that because the CC list of BR's is quite small, they have mostly foreign films and they are all released prior to 1975 (none of these facts means the movies are inferior in any way, Im just saying).

I lost my copy of Fallout 3 (disk only) in a box and it had scuffs on it, then I wiped it with a lense cleaner, it looks brand new :D I dont like UMDs though, mine were always breaking :( The little cases would sometimes split after a while.

Yep, Blu-rays are tough.
My brother told me he went to Gamestop and while he was buying his game, he asked the same question to the cashier. The cashier took his game, rubbed it all over the counter, wiped it with a cloth, and not a scratch.

That sounds like what they do with every game.
