Why is anime synonymous with gaming?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Not a big fan of anime, but a fair number of people in my school are. Also, I don't hate anime or people who like it.

The only time I'll watch it is if it's based on a game I really like. (inb4 Salamander OVA)

Visually, most of the popular anime today doesn't impress me(but then again, most of them are not OAVs) and the stories are just, who are we fighting this episode? There's actually little in animation that grabs me these days. No more Justice League Unlimited and Bruce Timm is only involved in straight to video movies now. No more Disney's Gargoyles. It's really just Family Guy, Futurama, South Park and occasionally Robot Chicken that I watch now. I hear Metacolypse is good though(that Dethklok show)

You should look through Japanator Recommends. They seem fairly on the ball. http://www.japanator.com/elephant/index ... recommends

Also, yes, give Metalocalypse a shot, and I'd say Venture Brothers is without a doubt my favorite Western animation now and probably ever. Those two shows are why Adult Swim is still relevant.

the Venture Brothers are awesome. If you like it check out Jackson Public's blog, http://jacksonpublick.livejournal.com/

The commentary on the DVDs are so damn funny. I still can't get over the flugel horn.

I think I'm right when I say their style of humor is very original but maybe there was something similar before it that I don't know. Many of Adult Swim's shows are but not a lot of other western animated comedy. I know there were animes that were truly funny and were not in the typical Japanese really silly over the top way that actually isn't funny. I suppose it would be difficult to find but are there any edgy and original comedy animes being made today? Also, are the batsu game shows that appear on youtube still popular over there?

I love the venture bros. and this statement is exactly what i say to every one all the time. it's such a smartly written show.

I was actually referring to TheyCallMeTheSwede in my last post. Don't know why I said Octopod, but you guys covered the whole origin of video games thing quite well. I agree, it started in the US, but Japan really defined console gaming for many years

Thanks guys, for the suggestions on japanator and the Venture Brothers by the way. I'm definitely checking out Dethklok's show at some point. I never really paid attention to them until I heard Murmaider on a metal station and loved it. Then the song popped up on Brutal Legend and I ended up checking out the whole Dethalbum. Good stuff, even without any knowledge of the show. That coffee jingle cracks me up every single time.

In anime's defence I always pull out the Nippon Animation card. Although formulaic in nature, nothing comes close to the sheer number of epics they used to churn out.

I wonder where they got the idea for that poster? Oh wait:

I like video games and I'm not a huge fan of anime. Every now and then a show will catch my eye, but I can't stand most of it.
Comics, RPG's, miniatures, and now retrogaming? I guess its time to learn to go without eating...

It is pretty much the exact same picture, copyrighted or not.
