How are the NES versions of Ultima, Wizardry and Bard's Tale?
Might & Magic also right?
CRPGs NES versions
Re: CRPGs NES versions
I actually HAVE the NES version of Bard's Tale, and it plays more or less like a NES version of a DOS game would.
Controls are good. Graphics and sound are good, by early NES standards. Get it and a portable NES and you can play it on the go.
And they have a really good CRPG for the iPhone OS called Undercroft.

Re: CRPGs NES versions
I do not have an iPhone, I have a Droid, so I am still waiting for some stuff.
Re: CRPGs NES versions
Well, my iPod Touch is only a first-gen model with 8GB.
But I wanna upgrade to a more current model with the most space I can get.
But I have to find a way to move my stuff to the new one.

Re: CRPGs NES versions
If you have an iOS device by now, Undercroft is free.
Still not out for Android, but there's a Windows port.
I wish there were more CRPG-Style games for current systems.

Re: CRPGs NES versions
I only played them back in the day, so memory is a bit fuzzy, but I remember Ultima: Exodus was hard as hell, though it controlled well enough and had reasonable graphics. Wizardry was pretty impressive on the NES back then. I never played Bard's Tale. There were some other CRPGs too like D&D: Pool of Radiance.

I like Ultima III: Exodus. I'd probably try to beat it if I had the instruction manual to explain some things.
Re: CRPGs NES versions
Good question. I try to stick with the original versions myself. But I know Matt Barton (who wrote the cRPG book Dungeons and Desktops) pretty frequently recommends the NES versions, just because they're easily accessible. Usually the graphics are updated and menus are streamlined.
You might also look at HG101. They usually mention how the ports are. Here's a bit from their Might and Magic entry:

That said, the NES version of the game is a vast improvement, with superior graphics, sound, and gameplay, and is preferable over all the home computer versions.

Re: CRPGs NES versions
Ultima: The Quest of the Avatar is a huge improvement over the PC original. The graphics are really nice for the NES. The balloon is fun LOL.
Thanks everyone...
