Does kinda suck, but I luckily never felt the burn of this. I already had component cables for my PS2, which made stuff like Persona 3 look uber sexy.

Still, think about all the other stuff you're getting with your system for free. Like WiFi.

Actually, that's not entirely true. If HDMI cables cost them even just $10 a piece
WAAAAAAAAAAAY off.

For 50+ cables at monoprice they come to 3.07 a piece. Of course, it'd be even cheaper because Sony would order Millions of them.

Maybe everyone in the world just has a better router than me, but gaming over WiFi sucks.

I was thinking the same thing.

This is something I never understood, yet was really never surprised. I mean yea, you spend that much, you think you'd get everything you need, yet it always seems there is some sort of accessory that it can't run properly without.

I'm trusting my instincts on Folklore. Ever since I first heard about it I felt it would be something I'd enjoy, but I won't really know until I play it. So we'll see. I got it free as part of a buy 2 get one free sale, so if I don't like it, no big loss.

As for your second point, I just think it's funny to see these commercials promising the best in high definition gaming. Then you bring the box home, open it and it's like, "Here you go. Plug in these composite cables and go enjoy some standard def gaming". WTF!?

But I'm not upset anymore. It's really a minor issue in the grand scheme of things. I'll just get myself some component cables and everything will be fine. I think I ranted a bit because I'm sort of getting tired of how not user friendly the world in general is getting these days. You buy pizzas, they hardly ever really cut the slices anymore. You buy a salad and they basically hand you the ingredients and expect you to put it all together yourself. You buy a high def gaming system and they don't even give you component cables. Geez, what a lazy, cheap world

Ok, ok, I'm done ranting.

If you already have Component Cables for the PS2 you can use those, the AV Multiout is identical and works with any cable from a PlayStation family system.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

I'm using my PS2 component cable at the moment, but I'll have to go buy another cable to keep from switching back and forth, since, you know, I can't play PS2 games on my PS3. :P

I'm just gonna browse monoprice tomorrow. Never bought anything from them and I need to start. I'm sure they'll have something else I need while I'm at it.

Yeah, it's BS but it's not about how cheap they are. It's about the fact that consoles make absolutely no money for retailers, like pennies on the SKU. Cables, however, can make retailers lots of money, especially if you're talking about the insanely overpriced $30 and up cables. It gives retailers something to upsell and it saves a dollar or two per SKU for the console manufacturers, which adds up when you're talking hundreds of thousands of units per month.
Yeah, this is the real reason, most likely. Retailers only make $2-3 on the console, if that? Why stock something that takes up so much room and makes no profit? Sony had to give retailers an incentive, and I'd say uber expensive Component Cables do just that.

Look at Nintendo & Microsoft. $80 for Wii Remote + Nunchuck + MotionPlus? $160 for a 120GB Hard-Drive? Big N and MS get a good chunk of that, but I'll bet retailers get theirs.

I think not shipping a HD console with a HD cable is on the same lines as selling a media player without headphones. It just shouldn't happen.

The 360 came with a combination composite/component cable with a switch on the plug to change what type it was. That's the minimum I expect when spending so much money on a console. Especially a HD console. On the other hand I don't expect the Wii to come with a HD cable, since that is not what it is designed to do.

I was completely shocked when I opened my brand new PS3 and saw that it only had a composite cable. I thought, "I've paid this much and they couldn't even bother to put in a HD cable". It didn't matter, since I already had a spare HDMI cable but it's still a slap in the face to the people who are supporting your company by actually buying your systems.

Like somebody else has said in this thread, they are advertising these systems as HD systems, they are flaunting the high definition aspect of it. If they aren't giving you what you need to have the same experience they are advertising then surely it's false advertising. You shouldn't have to go out and buy a cable, especially since they never make it clear to you that it doesn't come with a HD cable, they don't say it's a composite cable on the box, they say it's an A/V cable, that means Audio/Visual, and does not state that it is HD, the average consumer won't know the difference and would expect it comes with everything you need to hook it up and get the same advertised experience.

You don't get that with the PS3. Plain and simple.

Agree 100%, great post. Incidentally, I got an HDMI cable rather than component as some people seem to think it's better. I'm quite pleased with the picture quality. Not that I have the most discerning eyes for this sort of thing, but it looks good to me and the PS 3 automatically detected the cable and switched over to HDMI. Nice and simple, although accessing the HDMI connections on my tv was a bit of a pain. I called my tv some very not nice things, but now everything is set up and I'm happy.

Folklore's not that bad really. The loading times are ridiculous though. I just liked it for the giant Sweetums-lookin' monster. I wish there were more good RPGs for the PS3. :(
