Need cpu recommendation: Core 2 Duo or Core i5

What to consider before purchasing motherboard + CPU combo? I want to upgrade my motherboard & CPU. If I purchase a combo MB + CPU, are there any other considerations I must make before my purchase apart from that I have a PC tower case? Once these are changed, won't all the other internal components just plug into place & work? I am not a gamer, just web browsing & basic stuff.

If you don't know about these kinds of parts and you're just going to do web browsing etc then you should get a net-top, it will use less power, be much smaller and be capable enough for what you want to do. Look at the Asus EEE PC range.
