Why did someone combine the threads? They aren't the same.

I'd personally argue that considering something overrated and hating something are two different things. I really enjoy FF7 but I also think it's massively overrated by the gaming populace. I really dislike Halo and I also think it's massively overrated by the gaming populace.

I know, thats what I was saying. Is there anyway to divide the threads?

Ok, I will agree with you guys on the Halo community being crazed and annoying. I really enjoyed all the entries in the series (playing ODST right now), but it's always been for the single player experience. I played Halo 2 online for about a month, and then quit after having to listen to so many obscenities from teenage kids who were sore losers. My team did a CTF on Zanzibar in 45 seconds, only to be called really foul names in the lobby post game.

I pretty much look solely at single player for anything I'm interested in playing and I lost interest in the series after playing Halo 2 as Bungie was clearly more focused on the multi-player. Puts me in a weird place in Halo debates, as I quite liked the first one but not any of the sequels.

This is why I have little interest in most modern shooters. I just can't stand a game where I know fifty percent of the game's development was put into the multi-player, which means I'm NOT getting the best story mode I could have gotten for my gaming dollar.

I'm really sorry you feel that way, Gamerforlife. Multiplayer is one of the big pulls in gaming nowadays, so most companies consider that first. If they don't, they tend to be thrashed by the community at large for it, such as Doom 3 or Bioshock. Plus, multiplayer games are some of the best fun I've ever had while playing.

That said, I agree with you about wanting a solid single-player experience. While I have enjoyed certain multiplayer only games, I always play through a single player campaign first, and I feel put off if it feels rushed or gimped, or is nonexistent. As much as I enjoyed Battlefield 2142, the lack of a real single player experience always annoyed me about the series. In fact, I wish we could get both: a quality single-player game with some great multiplayer to extend the life of the game after I've gotten through the storyline, so I can kick back and share my experiences with friends.

#1 game that I hate and think is overrated: The Legend of Dragoon for PS1. My god, that game gets a lot of fanboy love - in my opinion, it is the very definition of a mediocre RPG on a console that has a wealth of solid RPG titles. My reasoning is as follows:

1) Bland, boring characters that I neither learn anything about or care to learn anything about, with the exception of maybe Rose. Every other character has a very vanilla, vague and seemingly unimportant part in the overall story of the game. This was a game that came out after FF7 and FF8, and seemingly learned absolutely nothing about story or character development from those games.

2) Simplistic and uninspired combat. Aside from the gimmick of the timed attacks (which later become almost impossible to pull off consistently, Dart's especially) combat in this game is beyond boring. There simply isn't much to do. Usually in RPGs, there are characters that will use magic, cast healing spells, summon monsters, steal items, or boost your other characters' abilities. Not here! Nope, you attack, attack, attack, MAYBE transform into a dragoon for one round if you're feeling wasteful, heal, and then repeat.

3) Transforming into a dragoon is really only necessary during the boss fights, and even then, the abilities feel under-powered. In fact, the majority of the dragoon powers are only slightly more powerful than a normal attack would be. Rose Storm is definitely one of the most useful spells in the game, but most of the others are unnecessary and a waste of MP.

Like I said before, I find the game to be sub-standard and did definitely not live up to the hype surrounding it at the time. How people can play this game and call it anything other than a cheap attempt to cash in on the success of Final Fantasy, I will never know.

Agreed. I will never understand why such a mediocre game has such a big fan following.
