PS2 graphics

Post by RCBH928 »

Okay,
I just want to take this OFF my chest

I THINK THE PS2 HAS DAMN AWESOME GRAPHICS FOR A 10 YEAR OLD SYSTEM.

I always thought the system came in late 2001 or early 2002, by I passed by Timesplitters which was released in October 2000 for ps2. And I was like thats not right, but ps2 was out at that time(a year after DC? Wow, Sega really shot themselves) and i think the graphcis are quite amazing for a 10 year old system,10 years!!

I still can't believe it...

I just really needed to take that off my chest, I feel better. Feel free to comment...

Yeah, but certain games didn't age well at all. I'm looking at you, Summoner.

I think this is not a surprise. After 10 years, I think the secrets for the best way to develop on a platform are all out in the open (for the most part). If you look at any console, I believe you'll find the best graphical games come out near the end of a console's lifetime.

How old are you? Do you really not remember when the PS2 game out? It was a *slightly* major release.

Yeah, so true. The best graphical games on PS2 for most part came out near the end of console lifetime like God of War II and Final Fantasy XII to name a few. PS2 is an amazing system with great graphics and such a diverse library of games that I'm still buying PS2 games. 8)

Meh, I have to disagree on a technical basis. The graphics for the time, were great, don't get me wrong. However, try playing those PS2 games on any HDTV. Most are 480i and full of jaggies. Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 are in this camp. Even games with 480p support, such as Shadow of the Colossus, look horrible which jaggies very, very apparent.

If you look at the PS2's contemporaries, Gamecube and Xbox, the majority of those system's games at least supported 480p, if not better. Now, if your saying to yourself, "Wait, but the PS2 was released a year before those systems," in order to justify the lack of HD support, I point you to the Sega Dreamcast, whose library (mostly) supports 480p via VGA output.

All this said, PS2 is an awesome system with fantastic games and I still have and play mine often, but its hooked up to my 27" SDTV. Great, timeless graphics though? Nah, other systems from the time definitely outshine it. :)
