PS2 was hard to develop for too. It didn't really matter - because it was popular, you saw a hell of a lot more games for it and, in most cases, multiplatform titles were built with the PS2 in mind. The Xbox and Gamecube versions might have been on-par with the PS2 versions, but they were rarely superior.

The PS3's fault isn't that its hard to develop for - this was clearly just a case of Sony's advertising and marketing team failing, and failing hard. Didn't help that the first few games out the door for the system were mediocre at best.
I'll agree most GC ports sucked when compared to PS2 or Xbox. The Xbox had almost always the superior version of the multiplatform titles. The games in my collection like Fatal Frame 1&2, Cold Fear, Prince Of Persia 1,2&3, Silent Hill 2&4, Metal Gear Solid 2, Indigo Prophecy, Black, Castlevania COD, The Suffering 1&2, Demon Stone and Grand Theft Auto and countless others were far superior on Xbox. Mainly they benefit from higher resolution, more advanced tech and lots of times the Xbox version came out later.

The PS2 was very popular and is why some consider the PS3 a failure this gen. Discontinuing the models with BC from the most played system in the world was one of many major boners Sony pulled this gen. Add that Xbox 360 had a year head start, easier Windows based development software and most importantly, was cheaper than PS3. Sony offered little support to developers on how to effectively use the development software and now its biting them in the ass. They had big heads and thought the Playstation name was bulletproof, they were wrong. I think it was a good thing and can only mean better, more quality hardware and software from them in the future.

FWIW I think the gap we've seen between 360 and PS3 products will continue to get smaller. Yeah there are some hardware issues behind this but I think the real reason is that on most titles the 360 version was the lead SKU and the PS3 version was second fiddle. When talented devs use the PS3 as a base, the PS3 version can come out ahead.

But I'm with the7k. It's all mostly minor differences, especially now. I think the real consideration should be controller and friends list based on the style of game you're buying.

I agree, most games are barely noticable nowadays. Controller style is big for me. I like the Dualshock much better than my 360 controller in most cases. Driving games are really the only time I prefer my 360 controller. Now that I have my new 360 steering wheel, thats gonna change though.

Most PS3 exclusives are way ahead of 360 exclusives if you ask me. Uncharted 2, LBP, MGS4 and Killzone 2 are a prime example of this. Near future games will only further prove this. I play my PS3 way more than my 360, and looks like I'll be playing my PS3 even more because my Elite RRODed on me the other day.

How good is uncharted 2? I'm really debating about picking it up for $40 shipped since I bought a TV already this black friday. Its a toss up between more ps3 games/save/more MVS games. Is the game just a hype or is it actually really really good? How long is the game? I really don't want to sit through another Final Fantasy X even though it was well done, some of the cut scenes just took way to long with no way to skip them. Also how many cinematics are there? I tend to like RPGs with a great story/cinematics. Thanks!

uncharted 2 is very good. If you havent played the first one pick that up cheaper and play through that first though. The second one is superior in almost every way, but the first is good and will wet your appetite for the second one... and if it doesnt than the second one may not be for you.

Both games have great stories and are a lot of fun to play. If you like rpgs with great stories, these games have great stories but do not play anything like an rpg

What is the gameplay like? Can you compare it to another gamer or is it unique?

It plays like an action platformer I guess. About half of it is third person shooting and the other half is platforming and puzzles. It's most easily compared to tomb raider and the platforming part is similar to prince of persia, just not as elaborately acrobatic. Lots of running, jumping, scaling, shimmying, shooting, and punching people in the face. Great fun.

Put Tomb Raider, Prince of Persia, Gears of War and Firefly into a blender - and weed out all the bad parts - and you get Uncharted 2.
