PS2 Problems
PS2 Problems
I've recently been having some bad luck with consoles I buy. I bought 2 PS2 fats and one of them is supposedly modded. So I get home and check them out and find that one has the seal at the back while the other has the seal removed. I test the unmodded one and it seems to be working fine. I turn on the modded PS2 and it goes to the main menu. So far so good, but when I put in a game (a copy or otherwise) it just says that it's reading the disc but it never loads and no error pops up. Any idea what's going on guys?
Re: PS2 Problems
Laser might be dirty or dead.
You can open up the modded PS2, try cleaning the laser gently with cottonbuds and rubbing alcohol, see if it helps. Else there are quite a few guides online on adjusting height of laser(white cob at the back) or the dial beneath the laser. Could also try detaching and reattaching the laser ribbon, in case it got loose. If all doesn't work, most probably it's dead.
What are your PS2 models? If the 2 PS2s of the same make, you might want to transfer the lens over from the working unmodded PS2?

Re: PS2 Problems
Thanks for the idea. Turns out it plays originals but it doesn't boot from the menu. You have to put in the disc and then restart the console. Which is weird, is there a way to fix this? I haven't tried a backup yet but I'm sure it'll work.

I'm not an expert on modchips, but that sure sounds like something to do with the way it boots the system up.Rebz wrote:Thanks for the idea. Re: PS2 Problems
Some of the Ps2 modchips had special ways of loading original games and backups. Some you had to put it in normal mode for originals and special mode for copies. I think it was a matter of holding the reset button for 5 seconds to set it in the other mode.
Find out what chip you have and look up the proper way to start the games
