There we go, that's what I was thinking. The upscaling of a standard def input to the HD, even if its CRT introducing a little lag.Scooter wrote:I almost bought a wide, flat screen CRT HDTV for my gaming but it wouldn't work with my lightguns so I passed. Afterwards I did a little research and found that the TV has interpretive filters which slightly delay the picture thus messing up the timing required for lightguns to work. There is no way to turn off such filtering on most such TVs so they simply won't work with lightguns.Hobie-wan wrote:Maybe there's too much lag due to the size of the TV and its messing with the timing of registering a shot.

Re: Problem with Madcatz Gun
I think if we could add a bit more this and more easily explain some things it might make a nice article for the main racketboy site. The question comes up every so often and having a good guide for using light guns and buying TVs and then the alternative options (like those light guns that do work with LCD TVs), etc.
I don't know anything about, just my observations and maybe some of you guys can collaborate to make it happen.

That is a really good idea. I was using my Saturn lightguns on my small little TV since they don't work on my big one, but eventually gave up and just got rid of the guns.molotovwars wrote:I think if we could add a bit more this and more easily explain some things it might make a nice article for the main racketboy site. It would be nice to know have this information readily available for those looking to play old light gun games.

Re: Problem with Madcatz Gun

My Mad Catz gun is broken too. I bought it off of a guy for 5 bucks and when I found it was broken the guy wouldn't respond to me.
It breaks my heart because I want to play House of the Dead on my Dreamcast!

Psst, that was a spammer. Notice his link for stun guns in his sig. I reported it last night, but apparently the mods haven't had a chance to clean it up yet.Beak wrote:

Re: Problem with Madcatz Gun
I have a Sony Wega HD CRT, It is model number KV-32HS500.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FD_Trinitron/WEGA
Extremely heavy compared to even a regular CRT of the same size, 200 you gotta be kidding pounds! Because it is an HD which is a 120hz older light guns won't work. There is no VGA connection, No House of the Dead on Dreamcast. When using a light gun (using composite and also S-video; Dreamcast supports VGA and scart-RGB no component) the gun does flash the screen but sight on the screen tends to wander due to looking for 50-60hz signal. I'm thinking about a VGA to Component transcoder but due to cost and unsure of it working have held off. I do know a direct VGA to Component cable only results in a purple off center screen. Even tried switching the red-blue-green Y-Pb-Pr cables around. from what I've been reading looks like if you have a HD CRT with VGA input use VGA box with Dreamcast and (cross fingers) than light gun should work.
Here's a thought:
Has anyone have any luck with VGA transcoder to Component - Dreamcast Lightgun - CRT?
Consoles owned can-you-say-I'm-slightly-Game-OCD:

Computers owned don't laugh:
Vic-20, Texas Instruments TI-99/4A, Timex Sinclair, C64, imac G3, and Athlon PC, again kids have newer machines Apple and Sony laptops.

Re: Problem with Madcatz Gun
Upon research turns out the Sony Wega HD's put out 120hz not 100hz. So looks like no luck on Namco Guncon 2.
Still looking into Dreamcast VGA option.
Here's some links of the 2 adapters if combined might work:
Dreamcast VGA:

VGA Transcoders:

An update, I personally confirmed that the Dreamcast Lightgun does work on a CRT VGA monitor.
