MS mass deletes Xbox 360 crashing claims from Forza 2 forums

Post by kinn »

I think the subject title says it all really. MS has deleted a thread with over 900 replies about Forza 2 crashing their 360s. I cannnot believe this.

Here is the link for more info.

I can't vouche for anything they may or may not be doing after receiving said information about their product.

What I can say is that the deletion of public threads in psuedo-public forums on private websites are common things. The bias statements of users en masse isn't really a good thing on your OWN website. It'd be like Racketboy allowing a thread 900 posts long talking about how much of an idiot, moron and asshole he is. I don't think he'd really like that and have it removed.

Now if they fail to rectify any situation, that's another story on its own. As for deletion... it's common. I've worked for several multi-million dollar websites. They ALL deleted any threads in their forums that were negatively bias towards the corporation. Users all would react the same way "SEE! *insert company name here* doesn't care about us, all they care about is money!".

WELL YEAH! That's what capitalism causes. If you don't fucking like, go eat grass. Money is fore most the most important thing to these companies. With out it they can not supply you the customer with your product. But at the same time, you the customer must stay happy. But not just you, but every customer, including those who haven't heard this news yet. Yeah this sounds weird, but it is what works. Yes they removed the information from THEIR website. But that doesn't mean there not gonna do anything about it.

Active removal of propaganda is not proof of passive aggression through ignoring you.

Deleting the thread does not necessarily mean they don't acknowledge the problem. 360 games can be patched. Maybe they've fixed the problem for the next patch and they don't want the negative publicity for a resolved problem. It is possible, too, that they just don't care but I'd be surprised by that. Forza is a big game for MS and they need it to work for that money stuff lordofduct was talking about.

Letting a thread go for 900 replies before deciding to delete it is stupid. Delete it right away, lock it or make an official response then lock it. 900 replies means they took too long to move thier ass, either they ignore their own boards to begin with and didn't even know about it or they sat there watching it not knowing what to do like idiots.

Being surprised it got deleted at all is also idiotic. Anyone that thinks their "relationship" with a multi-national company is anything other than adversarial should have thier head checked.

One website I worked for joined up with Microsoft to offer an extension to their "MSN Groups" stuff. This is one of the MANY huge and massive websites used for community discussions. The tiny little chunk of MSN groups that was merged with the company I worked for was so massive that it takes a team of 10 guys working around the clock just to monitor the photos... and even then the monitoring done is very minimal and they only sift through about 5% of the total pics uploaded to this platform. MSN Groups (the larger part of mentioned platform) is only a spec of dust on the several communities, forums and discussion groups Microsoft owns. The man power and cost of monitoring them ALL would be insane and not very profitable. Shit the place I worked at employed over 100 employees for monitoring content. 25 of which were soulily community discussion monitoring. At 15+ dollars an hour, that is a hefty price for a website as small as it was (in comparison to larger corporate websites out there).

Most of these groups work on a user agreement, and tattle tail system. You as the user promise not to post certain content, and other users can email to inform Microsoft of any abuse occuring. Forza possibly may be a BIG title for MS, but I highly doubt they are going to dedicate the man power to monitoring it actively, and the man power to pass the ruling on if it should be deleted.

Deleting isn't left just to who ever found it. It has to be approved by the head ups who are only available at certain times, and sometimes they take their time deciding. In that 3, 4, 10 day period... posts can add up. Especially on a topic that MS probably was concerned about shit being thrown at them for.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not saying MS didn't fuck up. I'm saying, news, forums, and other communities don't understand what is behind these decissions made by large multi-million and billion dollar sites.

At one unnamed 'adult' website I worked for... I had multiple jobs. One of which was monitoring the forums once a day for any innapropriate posts. If I found anything inflamitory against the company I had to email it to my supervisor. Which she wouldn't receive until the next day. She then would have to decide if it should be forwarded on to her boss. Who he then had to discuss with marketing, the legal team and the owner if it was going to be deleted or not.

Middle management, it's a bitch.

I honestly did not know this was normal practice. Guess you learn something everyday.

I believe that the users have created other threads now which are pretty much the same thing. Will they also be deleted as well in due course?
