Doh, I was writing something about Splinter and Far Cry, making a comment that I played them on PC because I play FPS stuff on PC. Then I axed the FC and had forgotten that SC was 3rd. Oops.BigTinz wrote:What part of Splinter Cell is first person?
I do play the Chaos Theory soundtrack though because Amon Tobin is awesome.

Re: just don't like metal gear solid
Metal Gear is my favourite game series. The amount of work and care that goes into every title is honestly unparalleled. I haven't come across anything that has so much stuff you will only find years later when you pop it in. I think MGS3 was a prime example of this. Having conversations with your support was incredible. Snake asking if he can remove his pants is my favourite. It's also the only series I've been able to make the choice not to kill someone, and still be able to beat the game. I sort of like splinter cell's gameplay, but everything else about it is boring as hell. I have played 1-3 and can't recall the story at all and I hated how most of your actions were done by selecting it from a list when it came time to do it.

I absolutely love the Metal Gear Solid series. If its the story that's throwing you off, it will make sense eventually. Once it does, you will begin to hate yourself for ever doubting Metal Gear Solid

Well, I guess not everyone likes Metal Gear Solid. However, I think MGS series is amazing

I could live without 2 and 3. 1 and 4 are awesome in my opinion though.
Older. Not wiser.
Re: just don't like metal gear solid
Loved 'em all except for MGS2, although the gameplay in 2 was still fun. MGS3:Subsistance Limited Edition is still the best $10 I have ever, and probably will ever, spend in my life. MGS4 was the reason I got a PS3 and I don't regret it for even one second.
I remember trying to play Splinter Cell on the Xbox - because it was being touted as the Xbox's Metal Gear - and I just couldn't get into it. I found the characters boring, the controls awkward, and it just felt empty to me. I felt no personality with the game - a problem that often plagues anything with the name "Tom Clancy" in front of it.
I can certainly understand why people don't like Metal Gear Solid, but I still feel that the gameplay is solid (lolz) and that while the story may be confusing as hell, it at least engages me. Many of the characters are much more layered than other video game characters, and even characters from other mediums.

Re: just don't like metal gear solid
Great topic as I just got off my Metal Gear kick! I played 1-4 in order and also read all of the documentation included with them. I don't have the subsistence versions and whatnot, or Metal Gear "More Better" as I like to call them so I don't know what was included with them. I REALLY need a PSP for the games after MGS3.
I used to dislike MGS2, but this last time I played it was great. For the first time I actually feel like I understood the story. I love the fact that in the end everyone was your enemy, and it was all about conspiracy.
Some small details like when Ocelot kills the president finally made sense. In the first game the president was killed by the foxdie virus, but since this president was not affected by foxdie Ocelot was forced to kill him so everything would play out as planned. Thats just one of the small details that made me love it this time around.
Really I think thats what makes or breaks this game for most people, the story(I am referring to the whole series when I say that.) Yes it is confusing as hell and it has literally taken me 10 years to figure it all out, but it was well worth it. At some point I started to not even care about the gameplay aspect and was anxious to see these "annoying" cutscenes and codec conversations. To think that the main story to this game is over makes me sad, but I am still very anxious to see what Raiden was up to in between the main plot.
Damnit, I cant even express all of my opinions for these games. They are among my favorite games of all time and i treat them like one huge experience kinda like Lord of the Rings.

Re: just don't like metal gear solid
I loved MGS 1.
MGS 2 was ok, but I found the story lame, which is like the majority of the game.
MGS 3 I played for a few minutes and got bogged down in figuring out how to change camo and sneak effectively. I put it down and haven't gone back, though I do mean to give it a fair shot at some point.
Splinter Cell kind of bored me with the first one, but Chaos Theory has a soundtrack by Amon Tobin, who is one of my favorite musicians, so I just gotta love it.

I played through and enjoyed the PS1 MGS, but I just never bothered with any of the sequels for some reason. *shrug*
