Another new category idea offering

Post by marurun »

OK, I think I thought of something that would really make an interesting series of articles:
QuickPlay and TimeSink.

QuickPlay would be all about games that you can pick up and play for a few minutes and put back down. And if you don't play them again for a week or a month, you can still pick it right back up and play a little more. Tetris and like puzzle games are, obviously, the best examples of this, but there are other games that are fun and don't require massive time commitments or timely play.

TimeSink would be all about games that are so addictive that they suck you right in and waste all your waking hours. Sure, every gamer has a couple games that do this to them, but what are the games that seem to universally do this? The Sims and Pokemon would be great examples, but surely there are others.

Anybody like these enough to think they need to become reality?

Very cool idea!
I'm all about pick-up-and-play games since I have a short attention span.
I'm sure there are others that like the engaging games as well :)

I was kinda thinking you might say that :)

I turn 30 in August and I just don't have time to really veg in front of every platformer that comes along like I did 10-15 year ago. I suspect there are other gamers in here who are gamers in spite of their encroaching adulthood who would be able to contribute, and appreciate, the meat of this idea.

Excellent Idea!
Same here 25 and not getting any younger :(

Recently Ive been playing snes, ds, wii, and genesis. I remember I used to finish and rpg in like 3 or so days. I remember finishing final fantasy VII in 4 days, I know some people finished it in less time. Last year I unwrapped final fantasy IX and last month i got to disc 4 (hehe).

But hey really im up for the quick play.

The DS is awesome for my habits -- it's great to be able to close it up whenever to pause it and come back to it when I please.
I couldn't imagine it being much more ideal

I'm thinking about a gameboy micro just for pick up and play time when I'm in the car or between things.

I agree with you 100%!

I'm 28 at the moment and with family commitments etc I dont have the time (and energy maybe) to play as many games. Which is sad since there are so many games coming out now!

There are so many games I want to play but I'm kind of scared to start one due to the time commitments that some demand! Just recently completed FF12 and that has kind of drained me. Taking a breather by playing some DS games like Picsross, Planet Puzzle League etc. before I start on Okami next....

Forgot to say that I would love to see an article like this!
