Originally a reply to this thread, I thought it might do better as it's own topic.
I just realized... if someone just got a PS3, they probably don't want games that are going to set them back a load of dough - so, I'm going to make a list of games that are good (either in my opinion or by popular opinion) that are cheap as free. Not limited to exclusives. Prices pulled from vgpc.com.
The Club - $7
MotorStorm - $7
Condemned 2 - $8
Virtua Fighter 5 - $8
Rainbow Six Vegas - $9
Unreal Tournament III - $9
The Darkness - $9
Call of Duty 3 - $10
skate - $10
Virtua Tennis 3 - $11
LEGO Batman - $12
Resistance - $12
LEGO Indiana Jones - $12
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - $12
Mirror's Edge - $13
Burnout Paradise - $14
Warhawk - $14
LEGO Star Wars Complete - $14
Ninja Gaiden Sigma - $14
Devil May Cry 4 - $15
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 - $16
Soul Calibur IV - $17
Bioshock - $17
GTA4 - $19
Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction - $19
Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots - $20
In traditional Racketboy fashion, if I only had $50, I'd go for:
MGS4 (For the great single-player)
Warhawk (For the great online play)
Resistance (For the great local co-op)
For a total of $46, give or take.
If you don't care much for shooters, then I'd recommend replacing some of those with Burnout Paradise, Virtua Fighter 5 or any of the LEGO games.
Hope this helps some folks out.
For those with new PS3s and empty wallets...
Re: For those with new PS3s and empty wallets...
I too have a very empty wallet and need to stop buying games until job. I recently purchased Street Fighter 4, Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Soul Calibur 4, and GTA4. Yes i know a lot of 4's. I bought me 60 gb ps3 $220 a few months back, of course backwards compatible. I don't like buying anymore ps2 because I already own best games for it. Looking forward to resident evil 5. There are games on your list that I may purchase someday.

Nice list. I'm hoping to scrap together enough money from christmas to be able to get a PS3 and I'm sure this list will be useful for starting the collection of

Thanks. I intend to buy the PS3 for some of the exclusives, but buying more than two new games would be a pain.

I have RR6 on the 360 and it is quite fun. I hear 7 is even better. I know it looks a bit better.

if you own a ps3 and want a cheap game for around $20-$25, get MGS4 and/or Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. I have beaten MGS4, 9 imes and I'm still not bored, plus its online is really good.
