I recently got a model 2, 32-pin Sega Saturn. The system works perfectly, tested with original game disks. Today, I installed the mod chip I ordered and am having trouble.
The problem I'm having is that all disks, including originals, only show audio tracks and will not load the game. I started with the A-B method. When I experienced this problem, I then removed the bridge and soldered directly to pin 14, with the same result. I've now gone back to having a solder bridge.
When I had the signal cable connected to pin 14, the left of the screen was a large red sphere and the right had a green cube. It changed back to the solder bridge, it changed to green cubes on either side.
The mod chip appears to be all the way in the slot and the ribbon cable is securely connected. I'm holding off on filing the edges of the mod chip connector for now, as I wanted to check on here first.
Anyone have an idea what could be wrong?
EDIT: I just did the following and still have the same problem
1 - Re-solder the A-B bridge to the front of the chip (some people reported success with that)
2 - Re-soldered both ends of the power cable in case there was a bad connection
3 - Removed and re-inserted the CD-ROM cable in to the mod chip
4 - Filed the mod chip connector to make sure it fit correctly
I'm starting to think the chip is defective. I've ordered another to test out that theory (shipping back for replacement would take too long as I live in Hong Kong). Until then, I'd still love to hear any suggestions people here might have.

Just installed a new mod chip and having the same problem. All disks, including originals, only display as audio disks. If I remove the chip, everything works perfectly.
EDIT: I GOT IT WORKING!!
So I used the A-B method with the new chip at first and it didn't work. I have just removed the solder bridge, connected the wire directly to pin 14 and BINGO!!! Looks like my first chip was defective after all, as I tried this exact configuration with it without success. Thanks RacketBoy for a great product. I don't hold it against you that the first chip was a dud. It's not your fault I live halfway around the world which makes returns a pain.

These mod chips seem to have a high defect rate. It would be interesting to hear from racketboy how many returns he gets for 100 chips he sends out.
